[CrackBerry Question]

I recently bought a DTEKk60 and I have been unable to get any sound out of the rear speakers. I tried searching for this issue on Google, but came up with nothing. I read on one review for the DTEK50 that the rear speakers are engaged when the phone is placed face down on a flat surface. This does not seem to be the case for the DTEK60, at least for my phone. Does anybody have any insight as to what is going on?

There are no rear speakers on the DTEKs, just the two stereo forward facing speakers at the top and bottom of the phones.

I'm beginning to think that you are right. But why have the rear grills? Is it just decoration?

Sorry, my phone's in a case, so I didn't notice that there are grill openings on the back top and bottom as well as the front.

The correct answer then is that there are top and bottom facing stereo speakers, producing equally good sound whether the phone placed face up or face down.

Yes, I just tested my DTEK50 and it sounds equally good whether face up or face down. Also I can hear the sound coming from both sides of the top and bottom openings if I hold the speakers close to my ear.

Thanks for the confirmation---I really appreciate it! So we can confirm that the DTEK 50 rear speakers work, but what about the DTEK 60? Maybe there's a difference between the two models. Can anyone with a DTEK 60 confirm that their rear speakers work?

I just called Blackberry tech support and they confirmed that the DTEK 60 *does not* have rear speakers and that the grills on the back of the phone are purely decorative.

I expect that the rear grills on the 60 function the same way as on the 50 to allow sound to be projected from the rear side of the forward facing speakers.

The rear grills are not purely decorative, there is just one pair of speakers.

That would have been my assumption as well, but I can confirm that no sound at all comes out of the back grills on my phone...it does seem to be purely decorative.

they are just decorative , at least on the dtek 50. anything you hear is coming from the front openings

Well, it looks like we have the definitive answer for both the DTEK 50 and DTEK 60. The rear grills are just for show. It's all a bit misleading, really...one would expect better from BlackBerry.
