Hi guys,
I was fiddling around with my q10 for days so I decided to do a security wipe leaving blackberry protect on. My phone got stuck on 97% during the wipe all night into the next morning and I spent the next day without a working device.
I did a reload of the os with an autoloader and to my surprise, blackberry protect was turned off by the time I finish setting the device up.
My question is, what benefit does the blackberry protect have if after a reload with autoloader its inactive and had to be setup again?
I was never familiar with BB Protect. My opinion is: my personal data should not leave my device, except I know exactly where they go. Since there a several very good backup apps available giving us file based backup functionality I advise not to use BB Protect for backup purposes. I prefer doing my backups on the device itself, on the SD card, rating a mistake of my own and the buggy Contacts app as the most probable issue these data can have. If someone wants also to be safe against losing the device or thievery he can move his backup files onto another machine, a PC or so, using USB. But I would never store backup data somewhere in a cloud.
Whenever I do a security wipe and the device gets stuck at 9x%, I just do a hard reset with the up and down volume rockers and it restarts the load-up but finishes completely in about half an hour.
BlackBerry Protect doesn't back up your phone up at all.
On BBOS it did some but bb10 it doesn't.
I don't know about the OP but when I did a wipe I had to sign in with my BBID.
I know it doesn't back up your phone, its there as a security measure to protect against theft.
I just find it unsettling that after using auto-loader the protect is no where to be found, thought it was ment to stand the test of time Just like you cant go back to a previous version of the os if you have 10.3.2 on your device.
This anti-theft isn't do exactly what it says, its ment to kick out people from the device when stolen but someone cant auto-load your phone even with your protect and bam! Its a new device for the thief.

Never tried hard reset though but I held down the power button till it restarted the security wipe.
The question isn't about the wipe (which is obviously faulty in my opinion). Its about BlackBerry protect (anti-theft)
