    Yes, it is built in to the OS. Push and hold the period then speak. Works in every text entry field I have tried it in.

    You can also use the mute button. Push and hold until it prompts, then let go and talk.

    If you press and hold the mute button you need to give it a command.
    If you're in the BlackBerry Assistant and halfway through something, the actions will be context sensitive.
    Otherwise it will launch a fresh speech session rather than just dumping a transcription in the text field that had focus.

    To dictate into a text field outside of the assistant, long pressing the period button is the way to go.
