I have turned on 'save chat history' from settings. Now if I factory reset phone and sign in to bbm then will my chat sync again?

No it will not. One of the many serious shortcomings of BBM.

BBM allows you to store your chat history locally on your device. Before you factory reset, do a FULL backup (including application data) for your device. After you factory reset your device and setup BBM and BlackBerry ID, restore the application data. Everything should be there.

Nope... that's the way it should work... but it doesn't.

REALLY! Since when? When I swapped Z10's about a year 1/2 ago, I followed the exact process and all data was there.

Contacts and groups are re-populated, but not chat history.

But contacts & groups are re-populated without the need to backup and restore. Those are connected to your BBID. You can switch between BBRY devices or even cross platform without losing contact, groups, and channel data. You're right about BBM not storing it on a server but if you backup and restore the local application data, the chat history should be there. Again, emphasis on local.

I've done it this way in the past when I did save my chat history. I wish I had the time to test it out again. I swear it worked.

YES You CAN save bbm chat history AND ALSO transfer chat history to a new device. HOW ABOUT THAT! Searching does wonders!

Good call. I just helped my friend load 2243 on his passport and restored his chat history literally hours ago.
