Using an unlocked BB10 device, will performing an OTA update (over WiFi) with a carrier's SIM inserted cause that carrier's branding/preloaded apps to be installed on the device? If so, is it possible to revert/avoid/opt-out of this?

Each carrier's branding will be different, but yes, you may come across some carrier-specific apps. And there is no way to opt-out. You can delete the apps (usually). You can also pull out the SIM, do the OTA update, and put the SIM back in. However, the next time you reboot the phone, you will get some form of carrier bloat. Each time you change the SIM, the same will happen.

Usually easier to just delete the carrier bloatware.
