Contacts gone from z10; BBLink worse than useless
OK. I'm so frustrated, I could scream. In fact, I have...
Opening details: z10, purchased directly from BlackBerry. Model STL100-3. Software version 10.2.1.3247. Carrier, AT&T. I don't know if my scream-about issue is connected to this other weirdness, so here's a little backstory.
About a week or so ago, I started getting messages "Device Storage Almost Full; consider moving or deleting existing files". It's showing 15gb of 16gb used. I don't know what the usage was before this message began appearing; I don't have tons of apps, all photos/media is stored on the sd card, and storage was never even close to an issue before. It's telling me that the system is using 10.98gb; apps are using 1.28gb; user files are at 8mb; and 942mb are free. I've deleted a few apps, very little has changed on the storage end. (Apps currently installed:Twitter, Weather Channel, CB, Word Soup, Kindle, Battery Guru, Spider/Solitaire, abc notes, Evernote, Print to Go, Web Splitter, DropBox). None of these were newly installed. They've been on the z10 for many months.
But that's not the worst of the problem. Sometime over the last 3 days, most of my contacts have disappeared. I don't know how many there were, but probably along the line of 300, with multiple numbers, addresses, notes, etc. I now have 54, and those are incomplete. And there's no rhyme or reason - it's not like I've got all the A-D contacts, and the others are missing.
And here's the part that's worth screaming about - BBLink has been a TOTAL FAILURE. I back up on a regular basis, no less than every other week, usually weekly. A total backup. So, after the contacts disappeared, I went to Link (which, by the way, shows 9.1gigs free), and found only the last two backups listed (major flags there!); selected the last backup, restore from backup, selected "application data" and hoped for the best. Well, that was about useless. Got the afore-mentioned 54 incomplete contacts. Tried the earlier backup; same result.
I've resigned myself to searching through old emails to add in contact info, putting out a request for info to my facebook contacts, sending emails to the few contacts I have and asking them to forward the request on to mutual friends, etc. But I had a number of contacts acquired over the years that I won't be able to duplicate. (You know, the ones you come across and maybe aren't supposed to have, etc.) I WAS someone who trusted my BlackBerry for this stuff.
BlackBerry SHOULD be reliable. It's processes should be trusted. It USED to be. But BBLink is, as has been stated on here too many times, a complete failure.
Rant over. For now. Anyone out there have any brilliant ideas? Any suggestions for back-up apps that actually work? Thanks...
