I installed Chase Android app 3.17 from Androiddrawer.com onto a z30 (release 10.2.1.2126). The app during install stated it would require access to contacts and shared files, and others. After install, i went to Application Permissions. The permissions for the Chase app were grayed out - I couldn't change them. So I deleted the app. 2 questions. 1. Why in the world would a mobile banking app require access to Contacts and Shared Files? 2. Is there a way to break, override, the grayed out permissions and then change them for an app?

That's how Android apps work, even on Android. You either have to accept ALL permissions or you don't install the app.

They shouldn't really need access to contacts however access to shared files may be required in order to retrieve a photo IF the app has the deposit check feature.

Chase's Android app does have the check deposit feature. You may be on to something here.

Chase is one of the 15 banks that was recently infected with malware. They go to almost idiotic lengths with security measures for their website/apps, but apparently can't make their house as secure. And this is not bashing Chase, I am a customer too.

I trust the bank (Chase). Just not the hackers that got in.
