when bb9780 is turned on with the usb cable connected to a pc the choice
menu (usb drive, sync media, charge only) comes up for about 2 seconds then
disappears, making it impossible to enable usb drive mode. What to do?

Try and catch it within the 2 seconds, it is actually quite a long time

The question is mine - don't know why it is shown as from a guest.
In any case the 2 seconds was illustrative the actual time is probably much shorter. You may be assured that I tried to fast finger a reply.
The problem persists, I cannot set usb drive mode.

More on this. I found by blundering around that after the menu disappeared. if I disconnected and reconnected the usb cord and hit the backup key. the menu reappeared and I was able to set usb mode.
I have worked with computers since they were as big as houses and have many times seen such absurd solutions. Life goes on, but things don't change much.
