Was the sync successful? If it was you should be able to access your missing files on your Mac book. Did you have a memory card? If you did and files are missing there are programs to get most of it back as long as you didn't use it yet.
First off, welcome to CrackBerry!

Media card is a great suggestion, that might have your photos. Also were you using BB Protect at all? Had you EVER made a back with BB Link OR upgraded your OS with the Mac or another computer that you still have/have access to? Does/did your carrier offer any kind of contact backup service, both AT&T and Verizon do/did that here in the US (Not sure where you are from).
In any event you need to sign up and give us more info so we can try to further help. :) I have BB10 users coming. :)
Also reference to the work around you are referring to. I would also like to see the process of the failure so we can maybe see the whole picture of how it happened.
Another photo backup possibility is BBM groups, IF you were in any before the disaster, and IF you shared any of your photos, you MAY be able to get those back once you get back online and get back in to the group. :) It's a long shot, BUT it may save some of your precious moments. :)
I really don't know...its not obvious to me that the files are anywhere on my macbook, but perhaps a data miner could find them. Sadly no memory card.
Hi - when I was having issues loading/ opening BB desktop (both blend and link) software on my mac book, I found some info suggesting to right click on the visible icon and access the files via a subfile called resources and to load software from the package shown in there. Does that help with the picture.
I admit I know nothing about MacBooks and I'm truly just guessing, but I would think that there must be a temp file that was created on your PC during the sync. It's also possible some of them made it to iCloud.
