With BlackBerry now being just a software company can they licence both the BB10 software with an up to date android runtime as well as licence their BlackBerry android Software?

Layoffs for most of the BB10 developer team notwithstanding, the BB10 Android runtime is a gray area with respect to being an Android fork. Keeping up forks jeopardizes access to Google services, which are essential to be a worthwhile Android OEM. It's in their best interest to leave it alone, which they appear to be doing.

For people like myself who know very little or nothing about Android forks, I found the info in the link below informative.

Thanks, thurask, for the simple explanation.
