Sprint can unlock. Other services can unlock. Doesn't matter if Sprint bands and other carriers don't match up.....

I am the buyer and that's what i said before but the device is on a installment plan and that's the reason why i was unable to get the code from sprint

Actually, you did not say that the phone is on an installment plan.

To get your unlock code from Sprint, pay off your unpaid balance... then I believe that you can request the code from them.

Sprint will not unlock your phone until you pay it off first. I don't believe anyone else can unlock other than Sprint before it's paid off.

Only reason I'd see for unlocking it is if you are planning to travel.... which you could probably contact SPRINT and work something out if that is the case.... maybe. Or maybe it won't need to be unlocked where you are going.

Unlocking it won't get you updates any faster and no matter what you can't sell the phone, until you own it.

Not sure how easy it is to unlock with a 3rd party. However, keep in mind, that if you do unlock it and then take it to another carrier (not sure how serviceable its GSM side is), and then stop making payments, Sprint can (will?) list your IMEI as a stolen phone.
