if so what version of Android does it have?
No it's not an Android phone, it's operating system is BlackBerry OS 10.3.x.y.
BlackBerry OS 10.3.x.y has an Android Runtime (emulator) within it, which enables the phone to run some Android apps as well as BlackBerry apps.
I'm not exactly sure which version of Android (aren't they always named after children's sweets?) the Runtime emulates - but I'm sure that someone on CrackBerry will let you know.
I think it is Lollipop version, used to be jellybean

The runtime doesn't emulate anything, Its an android runtime that's running on top of the BlackBerry 10 os if I'm not mistaken. 4.3 I think.
Therefore it's able to run BlackBerry apps and compatible android apps.
Thanks chaps, for the clarifications.
It's running iOS 9...But they let you switch between Android and iOS. Thanks you developers at Raspberry.

Wow, lots of different answers:
The BlackBerry Leap runs BlackBerry 10 OS. Specifically OS 10.3.1.2576.
It has a Android Runtime, which is basically a Emulator added onto the BlackBerry 10 OS. This does not change anything to the OS, it's simply a Add On. The Emulator currently support Android 4.3 which allows you to run android apps that support 4.3

Android 4.3 is jelly bean I believe

That's correct, they can't update the runtime to kit-Kat or lollipop because it requires extra "stuff" (keeping the explanation simple)
As of 10.3.2.2339 it's got a 4.3 emulator.

Please elaborate, I've not heard that one before.
Then you need to install the Google play store or snap. Have you tried that? Which apps?
