Did you try a hard reset by either holding down the up and down volume keys (together) for 20 seconds or the power button for 20 seconds?
Hey, necro reply here in 2024 - been using my old Z30 solely as an airgapped password vault in recent years but it's suddenly decided to do the same as what the OP describes. It gets to 100% on "Verifying and Securing Device" and gets stuck there. I don't have recent backups of the Password Keeper file so I'm looking at losing important data if I can't recover. I've tried several hard resets w/the power button and volume up and down buttons but no luck so far.
Has anyone ever recovered their device w/out wiping it in such cases? I'm assuming this is due to corrupted memory but I'm willing to try things like taking it apart and re-seating connectors etc. Replacing the battery has been on my to-do list for a while and I have the new battery in my project box so I was going to take it apart anyway before this happened. Any guidance or experience here?
Update: Managed to replace the battery but there's no change. Still stuck at 100% progress on the "Verifying and securing device" screen. Data is likely lost. Bummer. Anyone seeing this in 2024 with any info please chime in. Probably will chuck it in a drawer w/out wiping it since there's not much to gain by wiping it at this point.
Never should any single device be the holder of "important" data...
I could lose my phone today... and I'd be out a phone, but not the years of data it holds. BB10 is known for having issue every now and then on loading the OS. Not much you can do, other than try restarting it a few hundred times.
Thanks I guess. I know I Did A Bad Thing by not backing up every time I added new data, but my question was about whether anyone has ever recovered their data in such a situation.
That was really more for anyone else still using BBOS, BB10 or even BB Android and refusing to use Google Backup.
For you, I did say to keep trying to reboot. But this happens enough that, there are likly thousands of posts here where the same as happened to other. There is no getting your data back. Same did happen to me as well, and that's when I started using some OneDrive to back everything up (it still worked back then). The second time it happened, I didn't lose too much. Thankfully with time, BB10 got a LOT more stable than it was in the early days.
My Z30 is on 10.3.3 and it's been pretty solid for what I've been using it for, so this was a surprise. But yes I should have had a recent backup. It's not a disaster, just annoying to go have to reset a bunch of passwords, plus I just don't remember what I had recently added to Password Keeper. I was using it for stuff I wanted deliberately airgapped, like my router admin password for example. Now I'll have to hard reset that and try to remember what settings I had changed. All of which reminds me that I don't have a comprehensive, enterprise-grade backup strategy for all the things, and I should fix that.
BTW for anyone else this applies to: I had to reseat connectors as part of the battery replacement, so that seems not to have helped anything. I took it back apart and reseated them again, with no luck. I also stuck it in the freezer in a plastic bag (with some desiccant packs to soak up water vapor and prevent condensation) for a while in case it had developed some kind of walking-wounded signal timing issues. That made it boot a lot faster but still didn't change the result - stuck at 100%.
