    Hi Guys...

Please help... I have a BB9720 and it will not connect to my BDS... I keep getting an error message reading "Unrecognized BlackBerry Device. BDS device information update failed. Please verify you have a valid Internet connection. "
I have tried to delete and re-install my BDS but no luck... please help.

If deleting and reinstalling BDS did not work, try working from the phone's end and do a battery pull.

Also, under the Storage and Access settings on your phone, make sure USB Mass Storage is set to OFF.

    I hope that helps you.

Do you mean BDS = BlackBerry Device Service?

BDS does not support legacy devices - only BlackBerry 10.

    Pls explain your setup.

I'm pretty sure the OP was referring to BDS as BlackBerry Desktop Software which supports legacy devices only.

    Cheers.

AnotherBillj - the 9720 being on a OS7 doesn't give me an option to turn mass storage on or off. Normally plugging the phone a pop-up will come through asking whether I want to change - USB Connection or Media Sync... that doesn't pop-up anymore.

As soon as I plug the phone to my laptop via a USB cable I get the error message.

I haven't worked with an OS 7 phone for a while but if you get into your Settings (or Options, it might be), there is an option under Storage and Access (though the wording might be different) to turn USB Mass Storage on or off. It's there, I just might not be leading you down the right path.

    Cheers.

The option you're referring to "Storage and access" is applicable to the OS10 not 7.

On OS7 it'll just say "Storage" pics attached.

Know what? I do a lot of advising on other BlackBerry forums and I work with a lot of different phones. There are times when it can become a blur and I believe that's what happened here. I just looked at my son's OS 6 phone and I'm seeing exactly what you posted. With that being said, I believe I made a mistake about that feature and I owe you an apology for sending you looking for something that wasn't there.

That would be the only thing I can think of that would be preventing the lack of connection. If you've done a battery pull (with your phone powered on, of course) and it did nothing, I fear I have no other ideas.

    'A' for effort, I hope?
