Travelling in Italy for a couple of weeks and will require infrequent use of the phone & data when not in a Wifi service area.

Hi, AFAIK all BB Z10 devices are OK for Europe.
Can you find and print the device type please (settings/about)

All Z10s are quad band GSM and have the UMTS 2100 band--which is used by much of Europe for 3G. So you'll be fine making calls/sending texts. Data should be fine too on UMTS 2100, but coverage might be a little iffy inside buildings/basements, etc. They also use the UMTS 900 band in Europe, but that band is not present in all Z10s. The LTE bands used in Europe are present only in the Z10 that's native to Europe--the STL100-2.

Check out the Z10 link in my signature. Europe-friendly bands are: UMTS (HSPA+) 900, UMTS 2100, LTE 1800 (band 3), LTE 2600 (band 7) and LTE 800 (band 20.)
