Without getting too in depth and technical, red eye occurs when taking a picture in low light with a camera that has a flash that's close to the lens. This isn't unique to the Z10, it occurs in other smartphones and compact cameras as well. Red eye can be removed with post processing.

Luckily the Pictures app has a built in red eye tool. Give it a shot if you haven't already . Select your picture, hit Edit>Enhance>Red Eye Reduction.

The only other thing I can recommend then is to use another app for post processing to remove the red eyes.

I personally use PicsArt for that. It's available in BlackBerry World.

Are you sure? I've used several other phones with the same problem.
Even cameras have this problem, so I wouldn't start blaming the phone

Depends what OS you're on. I remember there was a version of OS10.1 that caused the flash to act all bonkers. But no one should be on 10.1 right now.

But if it's not that, then the red-eye thing is totally normal. It's not a problem locked down to this handset.

To prevent red eye in first instance ask the subject to look slightly to one side avoiding staring at camera with eyes. The flash catches the iris and red eye occurs. A slight look to one side by the subject helps prevent this. Works with all devices.

Some cameras get around the red eye problem. By flashing once just before the image is captured and then again when the image is captured. This allows the subjects eyes to accommodate to the flash and reduce the red eye effect. It all happens in a second or less, I'm sure you have seen some cameras do this. A software update my be able to improve this issue, but I've not seen this function on BlackBerry yet. The only solution in the meantime is using the image processing apps suggested.

Try taking the picture with the other device first, then the Z10 right after. Probably won't show red eyes on Z10 picture. A digital camera will use a brief shot of flash before taking the picture, to reduce or remove the red eye effect. That's why the second device doesn't show the red eye. You can't really get away from the red eye with the flash. Try taking the picture without the flash. Try the night setting. I have found that my Z10 takes pretty good low light pictures without the flash. Of course there will be a lot of people here that will disagree!
Just saw the post above mine! Exactly what I said.
