The battery ran out of charge on my 9900 and when I went to recharge it there was no response from the device.

I installed a spare battery that I know has more than sufficient charge and no response from the device.

Putting a charger on the device with or without a battery installed does not get any response from the device.

Trying the various wives' tales on plugging in with battery, without battery, leaving unplugged, then plugging in and installing battery, etc., do not get any response from the device.

I tried to find a phone number for BlackBerry, but apparently they only refer customers to their ISPs now. I contacted AT&T and they told me they can't (or won't) help me.

I also figured since I'm past the warranty, I'll pop it open and see if there isn't anything obviously wrong. I spotted an internal battery and after doing some searching found people who were claiming that the battery only keeps the date while the rechargeable battery is dead, and removal wasn't causing any other problems but was fixing similarly dead 9900s. So I removed the internal battery and it didn't fix it. Reinstalling the internal battery didn't fix it, either. Also, it's not a battery: it's a capacitor

I bought the device directly from Amazon with no contract and the warranty is only 12 months. If there isn't any way to revive this, then this is the last BlackBerry I will ever have used, and I have been a loyal BlackBerry customer since 2005. If their new plan is to sell devices that last 18 months and give them a 12 month warranty, then I'm out. I'm currently back to my backup, a 9000 that I bought in '09 and used until I bought my 9900 in '12, then used as a music player in my garage. The 9000 still works as well as it ever did despite substantially more years of use, abuse, and misuse.
