Currently no one has a license to manufacture and sell BlackBerry handsets, and BlackBerry Limited has no interest in doing it themselves. Unless a new OEM is willing to pay BlackBerry Limited a lot of money to repeat the BlackBerry Mobile experiment, we won't see any more BlackBerry branded phones.
Z10 = BB10 + VKB > iOS + Android
Game over. The fat lady has sung.
Sad, but that's the current reality.
You have a Motion, so since you don't really care much about the keyboard anyway, why not get a newer all-touch phone like an S10e or something and get the BlackBerry apps on it (if you even care for them)
You keep insisting that the ONLY reason to prefer a BlackBerry on Android is the PKB. That's not everyone's opinion. I preferred the Motion to other available slabs at the time of its release for its design, battery life, and locked down Android implementation.
I understand that you think the PKB in the most important BlackBerry feature, but that's not true for everyone.
Z10 = BB10 + VKB > iOS + Android
Right, but there is the subscription to BB's apps on any Android device as well as all-touch devices with decent builds and big batteries, therefore Motion users have decent options.
Not so much the case for keyboard fans...
I understand that YOU see all "slabs" as being equivalent. But no other Android has anything like DTEK as far as I've seen. The customizable notifications for sensitive permission use on my KEYone is my single favorite feature. And, without it, I would find Android to be unusable.
For you, BlackBerry is a PKB. For me it was a better Android than the other options.
Z10 = BB10 + VKB > iOS + Android
I actually tried making use of DTEK's sensitive permission notifications, it was so annoying because it would warn me of obvious things like "WhatsApp has accessed your microphone" when I clearly know I just recorded a voice note, or "The Phone app has used the phone permission" and other dumb notifications of the sort.
And sometimes when I would disable a specific type of notification for things I didn't need to get notified about (such as above examples) it would STILL keep doing it.
So I said bye bye DTEK and turned em all off.
I understand. That's my point. You will miss the PKB, and I will miss DTEK. Both were unique to BlackBerry Android devices, and both will now be unavailable. I am equally comfortable on the BlackBerry KEY PKBs or VKBs, so that's not a worry for me, but there is no company that offers anything like DTEK to alert me when permissions are being accessed.
Z10 = BB10 + VKB > iOS + Android
I believe this sums up the reality of the situation..
For some yes....
For others, not so much.
Just wrap yours up and open this Christmas!
