Is it possible to be alerted to calls from such selected people while in bedside mode? I need such a feature in case of emergencies. All other notifications should be muted.

No, unfortunately this is not an option within the OS, at least as of 10.2.1. I'm not sure if there is a third party app that handles this, or if 10.3.x brings this feature.
Unfortunately not for the 10.3 too, which is what I'm usingon the BlackBerry passport now.

Not to my knowledge, however it's a great idea. Just last night my phone rang and woke us up. Only need the kids, parents, and local police for our alarm system at work.

Wasn't there some kind of phone number whitelisting coming with 10.3.1, or am I just imagining things? Maybe that could be leveraged for this idea, if not natively, then perhaps a third party app (although BB granting that level of access to an app sounds kinda iffy.)
On 10.3.1.1154 you can set override for specific contact(s), so it will alert you of the phone call, message, email... independently of the sound profile selected. Even in 'No Sound' or ' Bedside mode'...
Go to Settings-> Notifications -> Contact Notifications and adjust...
