It is unfortunate the X platform launch of BBM was a wreck as it would have done much to help turn the page on Friday's earnings warning, however, the launch issues will be be fixed and done so quickly as X platform BBM is no doubt critical for many new and existing enterprise clients to transition from BES10 trials to MDM and security subscriptions. It is very clear that if x platform MDM and security is to be useful to clients, enterprise messaging must also be cross platform. In the mean time, the longer the launch is delayed, one can only imagine how the media hyenas and jackals will be piling on.....

    Don't you mean "" platform?

Yeah, I see your point. I am not sure that iOS/Android BBM can be integrated with BES10 or even WorkSpaces but that would really be a good move.

The problem is that BES10 is a fantastic MDM for BB10 phones, and a mediocre MDM for iOS and Android, and in fact, BB is licensing tech from other companies to manage iOS and Android in BES10.

Given that it's obvious that BB10 phones aren't being adopted, and aren't likely to BE adopted, there is really no reason for companies to choose BES10 as their MDM either. BES10's future was joined at the hip with the success or failure of BB10, and as BB10 goes, so does BES10.

Software and services revenues held at about $800 million for the quarter. Next Friday, we should get an indication of early transition from trials to MDM and security services and Q3 will have to demonstrate traction-I believe services are free for Blackberry phones but not so for Apple and Android phones under BES10. Other areas of revenue include QNX where auto software and systems services alone are anticipated to grow to $500 million by 2016; Paratek's new antennae (used in the Z30) may become an opportunity for licencing to other phone manufacturers, and for use in wireless nodes in the growing M2M sector (Blackberrys work and receive signals where other phones dont); and Certicom's elliptical encryption licencing opportunities should increase as current encryption by the financial sector and wireless commerce is expected to be outmoded in as little as two years. It is hard so know what Blackberry will look like in a year, but BB smart phones will still be available for gov't, military and enterprise clients who insist on the best security available. Briefly, Blackberry still generates significant revenues and need only right size the company to get profitable and grow again, provided the company isn't bought by someone with the balance sheet "gravitas" to leverage the assets.
