Misjudged extent of brand negativity in the marketplace.
Imported too many visual cues from older, outdated operating system (BB7), while under utilising TAT for visual "flair" in BB10.
Failure to abandon, or significantly upgrade specifications for what would later become the Z10, in spite of long delays in completing BB10.
Genericly branding next-gen phones as "Z and Q", instead of something more interesting and impactful.
Overly ambitious pricing.

There were way more errors than just marketing. Anyone who owned several BB devices from 2008 to 2012 can name them. It took way too long for them to wake up to the market changes, they built some crappy, unreliable hardware on several models, etc. Add to that poor marketing. I hope you don't think BB has had the best hardware and software, and it was just a marketing problem.
BB10 had the hub and peek as innovations. Everything else was available everywhere else. "True multi-tasking" does not matter to the masses.
I actually liked the TV spots with Tame Impala and the print and web ads were all well thought out. They just didn't launch with a "Galaxy" or "iPhone" slaying buzz phone and the OS while awesome, was visually too conservative. That, and unfortunately, Instagram.

Multi-tasking of a sort matters, but many BB fans would argue that BB10 has the only "true multi-tasking", which is not true nor do most people care.
