In my opinion, this would be the worst possible outcome imaginable. Microsoft would undoubtedly drop BB10, and likely only pay lip service to providing QWERTY devices. Their interest would be in eliminating Blackberry as a competitor, picking up their enterprise business, and possibly other non-phone aspects of Blackberry's business.

My concern is broader than whether OS 10 will survive or QWERTY keyboards will continue to be available. If Microsoft buys Blackberry, jobs will be lost. The more viable operating systems we have, the better it is for the economy.

The way I see it, in some countries:

Blackberry is number 3, in others,
Windows is number 3.

By buying Blackberry, they guarantee their position whilst adding to their armour to fight for position number 2.
