I think what's more baffling is the fact he's saying you can buy a BlackBerry because of it - Wait, I'd buy a BlackBerry because of it's Android support hmm. Me thinks he did make a booboo lol

Having said that 10.3.0.296 with the Android 4.3 Runtime .442 bars runs a fair few now that it couldn't on the old Android runtime even without any Google Play Services to 'patch in'

So are we safe to say the 2% of apps which aren't working require GPS? If yes that would mean some of the top apps most consumers "want". What about getting these apps for future customers? Will there be a snap option in BlackBerry World?

No, some actually check Google Services for licensing or authorization. I know of 1 in particular, VNC Viewer, pisses me off, mind you at 1 time it actually worked so it was communicating to the Google Services correctly then blocked. I think it may have been 1 of the Unlocked runtimes.

Lots of GPS Android apps run just fine on BB10. The biggest problem is apps that won't run without Google Play Services, though there aren't many outside Google's own apps that absolutely won't run without them.

You know i just thought of something. What about apps which need to install additional files (.obb). Wonder if this is included in the 98%.

10.3 isn't officially out, and won't be coming to the devices out now as they will be going to 10.3.1. So his statement would be false if he is using that as the qualifier.

An internal build of 10.3 might do it.

This is also automated I am sure so results depend on test harness quality.

I assume to get to 98% you would say if the game works, except for leaderboards, then it counts as "working".

In other words, I doubt 98% of apps work 100% completely.

that's not exactly what he said as that wasn't his end-all answer or even his first one to the question.. he said Android isn't really the strength of BlackBerry, goes on to mention numbers BB-features and then in reference to app support he comes back to it supports 98% of Android apps.. I actually thought it was a solid dance-around for that question lol...

in the interview he was talking specifically about the "road ahead", so it's very valid.

No they won't. That is why the 98% is a canard. Even if it was true its certainly not 98% of the top 500 apps.

This is an Android app and will not be affected by 10.3.1 changes to Air support.

You can buy Adobe Photoshop Touch too if you want.

The real point is that the issue isn't really compatibility anymore. There are still some performance issues and I'm hoping they will be resolved.

Regardless of what percent of whatever app functionality percentage works, I am experiencing more apps working with more functionality in every update.

Let's not forget how old this system is. If things go the way Chen plans, in two years, BB10 is going to be a force to be reckoned with. Even if only it's users know about it.

    I don't.

Don't need any more Google tentacles in my BlackBerry than there already is.

There's several good reasons why I use BlackBerry and will not touch a stock Android device as my personal smartphone, and that's one of them.

    I don't need 100% Googleplex compatibility.

There can be more than one Android version. If they've made it available on the Amazon store, for instance, it can't depend on Google Play Services either.

Bear in mind that there have been tens of millions of Android phones sold that aren't compatible with Google Play Services.
