If the ship is projected to go down, because of both an influence of market perception and actual market and product value, here was what I would do: give it the most!

    1. Removable Battery (Give Seido and Mogen something to do)
    2. Convenience Buttons (three of a perfect pair is best)
    3. Rugged! I mean IP67 rugged! (Get the market hold of the ruff and tuff always getting the scuff)
    4. Keyboard (don't loose it)
    5. Unlocked, no branding with carriers and include both CDMA and GSM spectrums.
    6. Dual-SIM (Compete with all those China knock-offs)
    7. Port for antenna, Satellite communication compatible with Hughes Networks.
    8. Build the phone with no giving in to the idea of planned obsolescence.
    9. Keep the flashlight feature introduced in the OS 10.
    10. Movie record should have pause and resume. A shame it was not considered in OS 10.
    11. Don't compromise with the likes of Computrace!
    12. Wifi tethering to add an Ad Hoc closed circuit network for talk and data communications.

What else would you consider adding to this 'ridiculous' list?

A BNC connector, banana plug ports, twisted pair wire speaker connectors (and an integrated amp to power them), solar cell outercoating---that can charge with sunlight reflected by the moon... ?

By ridiculous I don't mean absurd. I'm sure you couldn't help yourself and to continue that train I'd add parachute, spoon and magnesium on one side and some flint on the other. And of course a a dynamo crank so no need to rely on the moon's light with solar! Crank much more practical lol.

All kidding aside, a colleague of mine is looking into satellite phone and data as he often finds himself in remote areas far from any cell tower coverage and his communication needs are critical at times. He asked me to look into it and I found Ground Control Communications offers a reasonable plan: $60/mo and $6 per mb which is fine for email if controlling data with a client like Mutt of Pine if used as hotspot; BBOS very data conservative with it's compression I've found as well. He is also a Blackberry die-hard.
