How BB Can Destroy iOS and Android without Changing a Thing
- I have given a lot of thought to this. How can BB rise above its competitors to become relevant to the average person again.
Should they offer incentives to APP developers to beef up BB World? That might help, but who is to say anyone would notice.
What about more engaging advertising? That cost a lot of money that a already financially unstable company may not be able to afford and it is not a guarantee.
Then it hit me. They need to show the world why they are better...and what is the big thing about BB that makes them rise above the rest? SECURITY!
What if BB had a Fan; an ANONYMOUS FAN? A anonymous fan that found a way to exploit both iOS & Android in the same way, but it was not able to exploit BB. Let's say that something happened where no one that had iOS or Android was able to log on to their Facebook, or make an outbound call except to 911????
This would make major headlines. BB would be in the spotlight, and they wouldn't of had to have done a single thing except what they already do; securing their phones and the data on it.
Plus, they wouldn't have to even advertise on their own dime.
Right now, the average consumer does not want BB because they do not NEED BB. So someone just needs to show the world how much they need BB.
Just a thought.12-05-15 06:23 PMLike 0 -
But I am just suggesting that if something happened that forced everyone to look at BB again it would fix those issues as well. Developers would want to develop for BB because the other phones would be bricked until they were able to be made secure again.
If your bank acct gets hacked over and over again, but your buddy at his bank doesn't. Wouldn't you want to switch.12-05-15 06:34 PMLike 0 - I'm not sure what you are suggesting, but a takeover of devices at that scale would take tremendous resources. It would also land Chen and others in jail if BB were in any way involved.
Plus in all likelihood Apple and Google would patch the vulnerability once it was discovered, if such a catastrophic vulnerability like you're describing even exists.12-05-15 06:50 PMLike 0 - I know why they started to fail.

I don't speak for any nation or company.12-06-15 05:09 AMLike 0 -

Just a thought.12-06-15 07:39 AMLike 4 - So I appreciate the fact that everyone has decided to rip in to me on this. But maybe I should have stayed in the beginning that I am aware that this is in no way feasible. But it is logical.
The only way BB OS can come back is if there is a catastrophic loss to the other Operating Systems.
But thanks for all of your comments.12-06-15 02:23 PMLike 0 - BlackBerry is hardly a financially unstable company; they have $3 billion in unfettered cash in the bank. The best immediate thing they could do is to hire an ad agency that knows what they're doing and sink $100M more than the pittance they are currently spending into a useful marketing effort. Most people don't know that BB still exists, is financially healthy, that the Priv exists, that they can buy an Android phone with a physical keyboard, or that you can run all of the Google Play Store apps on the new machine. Apple advertises the hell out of every useful and useless thing they bring to market, then keeps advertising all year round. The only ways BB's phone business will survive is through lots of sales volume, lots of market research to properly inform their design team, and continuously creating serious buzz about their products.12-06-15 04:15 PMLike 0

But the bigger issue is the only way you can make money on a $100M ad campaign is to have several hundred millions worth of inventory to sell. Otherwise the ads are pointless. So now you're risking much more money than just the ad. If the ads don't work, you've lost the better part of a billion if you consider the inventory you need to back the ads. Apple can afford such risks, BB really can't anymore.
So mass market advertising really doesn't seem like a good idea to me with the cash they have.Elephant_Canyon and kbz1960 like this.12-06-15 05:03 PMLike 2 - Tre LawrenceBetween RealitiesSorry to interrupt your fantasy, but even if they worked together as one force of good against evil, Superman, Batman, Robin Hood, Celine Dion, the Dark Knight, James Bond, Shrek, Rooster Cogburn, Donald Trump, Ronald McDonald, Harry Potter, Harry Callahan, Scooby Doo, Luke Skywalker, Bill Cosby, Spider-man, Captain America, and Frodo Baggins could not save BlackBerry from the darkness that is Android.kbz1960 likes this.12-06-15 06:13 PMLike 1
- While not on the grand scale you propose or with severe consequences, every few months there seem to be reports of vulnerabilities/exploits that could compromise the security of millions of iOS or Android phones. And no one's seems to care.
Posted via CB1012-06-15 08:01 PMLike 0 - Tre LawrenceBetween RealitiesWhile such occurrences are definitely not optimal, I think the bottom line is that in the end, such threats are rarely of serious consequence in real world usage.kbz1960 likes this.12-06-15 08:09 PMLike 1
- Apps was the shortfall. If only they could find a way to attract developers by the masses.
I don't believe the social addicted consumer cares anything about security or privacy. It's about apps, looks, and performance.

You haven't done that?DrBoomBotz and TGR1 like this.12-06-15 11:59 PMLike 2 -
Windows has always had worse security than Mac OSX and Linux, and is still the most popular desktop OS. I know more people that got infected on their Windows PC than on their Android device and still nothing has changed.12-07-15 02:30 AMLike 0 - BlackBerry needs to get the biggest internet market and its porn. Why not make a device for adult only use. Sponsor fake taxis, bang buses, fake auditions. This'll beat ios and android.
I thought long and hard for this idea for about 158 seconds.

I'll just comment on one aspect of your plan. Those that use it know what I am talking about. The problem is JC's lack of vision and crap marketing efforts.
They can pay app developers to develop key apps for BB10 that people want. The high profile apps. But JC locked the piggy bank has used a strategy that failed. On that note, where is the Z10.Z30 replacement phones? The BB10 phones that people want and need a upgrade to>?12-14-15 06:38 AMLike 0 - There is a huge chance for BB10 to floorish.
