Disgusted Mr.Chen Hope you Read This!
- I wonder what would happen if BlackBerry fans directed the kind of outrage they displayed towards Rogers and T-Mobile for having to market BB10 constantly? Most of us know it's a struggle to get someone to even listen after mentioning BlackBerry. Strike that, I'd actually hate to think of what would happen. BlackBerry fans are in a tough spot. I'm hanging on no matter what, but how can you blame others if they don't.
OP. I think you have to remember that Mr. Chen has only just arrived. He has laid out his immediate plans and it looks as though he is fulfilling them to a tee. Due to 2013, BlackBerry is not in a position to gamble on marketing BB10 devices right now. Not even close. The steps he is making may not make sense to some, but they're the most logical not only for shareholders but for experts in the field. I have not read or heard one single news outlet question what he is doing right now. The stock price going up 40 percent since his arrival speaks volumes. If these steps show promise, he can then possibly refocus on BB10 devices and carrier support. It is a puzzle that has to fall into place exactly.

As for stock, they got a big temporary boost from the Facebook whatsapp acquisition and we're undervalued day 1. The jury is still out on his very conservative approach.03-08-14 03:33 AMLike 0 -
Posted via CB1003-08-14 06:32 AMLike 0 - I will keep loving my Z10 but we all know that at this rate, not even Chen can turn this company around.
Eventually BlackBerry users will all have bricked devices, way before 2016 expectations of profitability.
Nothing can make most people hate apple or android, the trend is set and we are too much of a minority to make BlackBerry gain back its credibility and once financial greatness.
It's simple mathematics - no sales, no profits, no capital.
Eventually, BlackBerry will have to face that fact.
And it truly is BlackBerry's fault that we do not see promotions in Best Buy, Source, FutureShop flyers, their fault that providers are misinformed, their fault that no one knows about BB10.
BlackBerry needs to rely on more than just word of mouth to help them get known again.
Posted via CB1003-08-14 08:01 AMLike 0 - I sometimes share the OP's frustration. How can such an AWESOME product fare so poorly in the market!
Well, part of it is on BlackBerry. They did a horrible job of marketing. Part of it is not on BlackBerry. There were a lot of misleading, downright dishonest reviews. There was and is a continual drumbeat of negative stories in the press.
They were and are fighting an uphill battle in terms of mindshare.
I actually think that Chen's strategy is the right one. Give up on the mass consumer market for now, at least in the U.S. Live to fight another day. Heck, these things are too good for most people anyway. Let them have their tracking devices and children's toys.
They should focus on the Jakarta, selling millions of them. Focus on enterprise and BES. Take those funds and develop new devices, then maybe take another crack at the mass consumer market. Right now it's a battle they can't win.NtotheK likes this.03-08-14 08:13 AMLike 1 - i had this argument last night with a REP on the phone because i was gunna recommend my friend's to get bb10 but there was no bb10 phone on the site and the daft woman told me that my Z10 is NOT 4G compatible so i said erm excuse me are you calling o0ne of your customers a lair? and i said yes it is look on the blackberry website so she put me on hold for 10 mins came back and said oh sir i am sorry you are right i will get my team to rectify the problem i told them how stupid it was for not putting BB10 on there website apsalute joke i was on the phone for 45 mins arguing with the woman because of her lack of information on the products i was recommending my friends for it disgusting Three sort you crap out!! - Mr Chen, please also watch Romania. And please fire the country manager, because in every network shop ( Vodafone, Orange And others) the BlackBerry 10 phones are presented blocked on retail presentation. The people come, try to interact with the phone but the guys from shop tell that BlackBerry blocked it and they don't have the right to change anything. Idiots for sure or not interested because nobody pushing them. If there were a policy here to market the OS or the phones for sure the things were in the other way....I'm a sales man and I know very well : without pushing a product you don't sell....
Proudly Z10 owner03-08-14 09:06 AMLike 0 - Two points :
A) they are still a multi billion dollar company, they are not some struggling start up. Sure, they can't market like Apple /Samsung but they have finance.
B) I can't agree that marketing /advertising is a poor investment. How can this be so if you want to promote a consumer product?

So nobody can complain that carriers don't push BlackBerry's, and that the z10/q10/z30 will disappear from retail outlets, and that market share will continue to plunge.03-08-14 09:39 AMLike 0 -
Posted via CB1003-08-14 09:47 AMLike 0 - In a lot (not every) of companies, the marketing department is stuffed full of snotty up themselves MBAs. How do I know, well I'm an MBA, before this I was a technical sales engineer for a major Telco in Pakistan promoting... BlackBerries!!!! And we had no support from our own marketing department and were just given targets. When we wanted to communicate with RIM we couldn't because our snotty Marketing department didn't allow any other department communicate with them. they held the keys to the castle, the CEO liaised only with the marketing department. Coming back to the MBA I did now. I was surrounded by snotty know it alls who had never held a job or experienced life outside the posh part of town. More than a quarter of them now work for my old company the Telco in guess what??? The marketing department. And the sales people are still expected to go and sell.
Incidentally during the MBA we learnt of the best, cheapest, and most reliable form of market research was from the company's own internal resources... The departments which go out there and sell or offer customer service. They can provide a more real, a more accurate description of what is actually going on in the market. So why don't they do it? Could it be that it would require them to mix with what is seen as the lower class of people... the sales and customer service people? Or could it be that using the internal resources mentioned above would paint a different picture of the market that they are trying to portray to the CEO (Remember he only listens to them, they have MBAs). And that picture is to hire an external 3rd party marketing research company of the Marketing department's choice. That choice is dictated by nepotism, corruption... Anyway you get the picture.
To sum up my rant, the ground (in the trenches) reality is something else, and the Marketing departments reality which the CEO acts upon is something else. This gap is because the Marketing department wants it this way so to financially benefit themselves more... screw the shareholders...xBURK likes this.03-08-14 10:23 AMLike 1 -
Please don't pass the buck and put all the blame on the carriers here. BlackBerry also made the support and warranty agreements with the carriers, so it's a partnership.
So far based on what I have seen here in the US the last 6 months, nothing has been done from either one of them for us folks here in the USA?
So, If it means I have to continue to ***** and complain until either one hears or reads these post and starts to fix the problems, then so be it.

It's almost to the point you wonder if it's worth getting the Z30 at $500 really. I got unlimited data and big red makes me buy it outright. Note: Verizon gave me a $240 credit to buy my Z10. They just did it for me. Good customer.
Posted via CB1003-08-14 11:18 AMLike 0 - I love my z10 I love the BB10 but it's frustrating to see the complete lack of product marketing by BlackBerry on their products.
Recently I was just in the three network shop just checking if there were any blackberry phones there was just one a legacy curve shocking
The three rep said there us no sales rep that come here or the other stores I was just shaking my head.
Mr. Chen does BlackBerry truly care about their products if so where is the marketing were is the sales staff.
Do not rely on just users if you want to regain any market share
From my vantage point it appears that blackberry does not care
Very sad such a great product
Posted using BlackBerry Z1003-08-14 11:37 AMLike 0 - It's crazy. Bottom line is they just don't care. I do t think anyone here can explain why Verizon is the ONLY major cell company selling BlackBerry. I don't think even Verizon has one to look at in the store. They got all kinds of true junk phones and no BlackBerry...nothing. Wtf.

Posted via CB1003-08-14 11:39 AMLike 0 - My point really was that reintroducing the belt was hardly the bleeding edge of innovation, and let's face it, it's about 18 months too late. But hey chens still on his honeymoon...03-08-14 11:54 AMLike 0
- We could talk all day long. It will never change the fact that BlackBerry is in a difficult position and needs to make drastic tough steps in a direct concrete manner. Realistically, this does not include pushing BB10 devices in the US at this moment.
Give Mr. Chen a bit of time. If the bleeding stops and things level themselves out, that's when BlackBerry can revisit the consumer market. He is making the rounds and trying to muster up support first. This will also give them time to develop new devices and re event themselves moving forward.

03-08-14 12:14 PMLike 0 - They aren't marketing these devices because they've been out for a year already and have not been selling. Chen is focusing his money on other devices and services rather than marketing last year's products. He's focusing on turning this company around long term not marketing these devices. He wasn't even here when these phones were in development and then released. Let him do his work for a year and see where we are and if he isn't marketing his devices then get mad at him

Chen's ignorance of the consumer market... and hence his decision to mostly ignore it for now... is stupid!

With all do respect, you need to do a bit more research into why he is taking these steps. Try and find one article that states BlackBerry should be doing as you suggest right now. You will not find one.
I can understand your frustration, but to call him stupid at this point is.......well stupid.
