- Accidental PostSlayer of MisinformationFolks let's face it people here have drank the RIM Kool Aid. Let's see, I want to go back to a slower processor, truncated email, bad web browsing, small screen and and OS that can't get out of it's own way. Yeah thats what I want, I want a phone that I pay the same price as for a phone that does everything well and is light years ahead of RIM. Apple is making huge advancements in the corp. world and has put RIM on notice. The haters will always cling to BBM and Security but, I work in a heavily regulated industry and iPhones are pushing the BB's out of existence.brucep1 likes this.06-08-11 05:35 AMLike 1

And Apple is no way in the same price bracket as blackberry. 15 extra a month compared to a 9780 or Torch to get the device free on Vodafone uk.

I mean is 25 bucks a month worth the headache, I believe I would pay it. But don't know until I had to make a choice. Don't blame Apple blame your carrier.06-08-11 09:12 AMLike 0

Having insurance would ad another 15/$25 a month, 7.50 a month for a blackberry.

06-08-11 09:17 AMLike 0 - Accidental PostSlayer of MisinformationThats the point why would I pay 199 for a POS BB when for the same money I get the iPhone? Without truncated email, craptacular web browsing and underpowered hardware?
And for what I am seeing VZW is moving away from the BB. Not totally but no longer do they push the device. It's all about Android and IOS for them.
Heck they won't even touch the Playbook and that should speak volumes........06-08-11 09:18 AMLike 0 - Thats the point why would I pay 199 for a POS BB when for the same money I get the iPhone? Without truncated email, craptacular web browsing and underpowered hardware?

BTW I'm sure many would pay a little more to be on a better device than a piece of outdated junk like the 9780. My unlimited data plan is only $29.99 and I have never paid extra to be on an iPhone so I don't know where you're getting your figures from.Last edited by JD914; 06-08-11 at 09:40 AM.

Given the options, it seems the best deal would be to get the free iPhone for 40/month and get the extra minutes. The extra 4/month over 2 years comes out to 96 pounds, which is less than the 99 you would have to pay for the phone on the lesser plan, and you get extra minutes and data. So if you go that way, yes, the iPhone is about 9/month more than a Blackberry, but you also get 50% more minutes and data. You can also get the same 900/750 plan with a BB, which would run you 36/month, which would mean only a 4/month savings for a BB over an iPhone. For people needing the extra minutes or data, I can easily see someone opting for an iPhone, especially since once their contract is up, they can easily sell their iPhone for 100-150 pounds, maybe even more. Two year old Blackberry, not so much.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com06-08-11 11:26 AMLike 0 - Alternatively, you could just pay the 99 quid for an iPhone. You're also exaggerating a bit. If you do get the more expensive plan, you do get more minutes and data. For example, to get iPhone 4 for free, you have to get the 40/month plan over 2 years, which comes with 900 minutes and 750MB of data. To get a free BB, you can sign up for the 31/month plan, but you only get 600 minutes and 500MB of data. If you get the same plan with an iPhone, you would pay 36/month and 99 for the iPhone. It's a bit more per month, 5 quid, but it's not as much as you make it out to be.
Given the options, it seems the best deal would be to get the free iPhone for 40/month and get the extra minutes. In UK for example, you can get iPhone for free if you sign up for the right plan. On Vodaphone UK, if you sign up for the 40 pound per month plan, about $70 per month, iPhone 4 is free. Unlike here though, they frequently offer the iPhone on Pay-As-You-Go plans, where you have to pay like $600 for an iPhone.06-08-11 11:58 AMLike 0

That's for 9780. If you want the flagship device, the 9800, you have to sign up for the 31/month plan to get it for free. I could just as easily pick the iPhone 3GS, which is free on the 36/month plan.06-08-11 12:03 PMLike 0 -

Undoubtedly a BB is cheaper to own than an iPhone, but you know what? It's even cheaper to own a feature phone. People get iPhone for what it can do, and if it costs a bit more, then so be it. I hate to break it to you, but BB is no longer a high end device, and its pricing should reflect as such. It's no surprise really that it's cheaper.Last edited by Roo Zilla; 06-08-11 at 12:28 PM.
06-08-11 12:24 PMLike 0 - Also, nobody in their right mind would get the 36/month iPhone 4 plan. They would be basically paying more money for fewer minutes and less data. The more reasonable comparison would be with the 40/month plan, which gets you 900/750.

The point I'm trying to get across is that Blackberries are cheaper for a reason. Basically, they're not as good. Sure, you can go ahead and say email is better or BBM, and I can come back with a dozen other things iPhone does better and it can go back and forth. Someone will probably pop in and say "but Blackberry does everything I need it to." Which everybody knows, is a copout. A Toyota Corolla does everything a car needs to do, but people still rather have a Benz.
When all is said and done though, the flagship Blackberry is just not in the same league as a flagship iPhone. I can't say the same about flagship Android phones, but people who think the Blackberry Torch or the Blackberry Bold is in the same league as an iPhone 4 are just deluding themselves. BBs are cheaper for a reason, and it's not because "everything made by Apple is more expensive."Last edited by Roo Zilla; 06-08-11 at 12:53 PM.
