Will I regret making the move from Verizon to AT&T just to get the iPhone? I know I will love the phone, its the service that worries me since I hear such mixed reviews.

Also, is the price difference worth getting the 3gs over the 3g?

For me, there is a big difference between the 3g and 3gs.

If you are worried about service, start a temporary number and then after finding out you have good service, you can call in to replace your temporary number. This is called a teleconversion.

I hadthe Iphone for 30 days. The phone is amazing, the service sucked. I am a realtor and need my phone all day long. I would drop calls EVERY DAY, and I live in Seattle. Unacceptable.......and on top of that, a few of my friends who are realtors have the Iphone. I have a tough time understanding them while they are on their phone. Great device, lame service. I would wait until it comes to VZW.

You should check it out I get more bar then I did with Verizon. But I am sure that will change when/if I travel. The biggest thing is really the fact that it all depends on the area, some places ATT is better then Verizon so I think you really need to try it out. All the perks outweigh all the negatives for me.

Someone suggested getting a 15 or 20 $ prepaid phone from ATT and trying it out on your most commonly visited areas to see how the service is. That could help.

Also, I can't speak for others, but my Storm constantly crashed and rebooted, even during phone calls, and sometimes the ringer did not work (the vibration was also quite soft). So to me, there is not much difference between crashing and dropping a call, except when a call is dropped on an iPhone, you can re-call 5 seconds later. On a Storm, you have to wait 5 minutes for the phone to reboot, and then you've lost 25% of your battery life.

Also, I would say the 3GS is a better upgrade. The processor is faster which will ensure that your device does not become obsolete as quickly and can take advantage of better graphics acceleration in apps that will come out in the next year or so.

I would not hinge on "waiting for VZW to come out with the iPhone". No one really knows when this will happen. ATT is trying to extend its contract with iPhone until 2012, and iPhone is the only thing keeping ATT in the game, so my guess is that ATT will throw whatever $$$ is necessary to keep exclusivity with the iPhone. And also, Apple has said outright that it does not plan to develop a CDMA phone because Apple thinks that technology is dead. So really, there is a lot stacked up against a Verizon iPhone 3G. Really the only option is for an iPhone developed on LTE. My guess is Apple won't spring for an LTE iPhone until the LTE system is tried and true, which may take a few years.

One of the cool things about ATT is that they have a 30-day, no questions asked return policy. If you are unhappy with the device or dissatisfied with the service for any reason, just carry it back and get a refund and port your number back to VZW...

I live at the jersey shore and made the switch a few months ago and upgraded last week. Depending on your area you may see a hit or you may not. Where I am there is no difference what so ever, never had a dropped call or a no signal notice.

In my area (NYC) ATT service is better than Verizon. But yeah, I would definitely suggest you test it out first

I was really worried about the coverage, but not anymore. I've been traveling with both my Storm and my iPhone for the past couple of weeks just to see how the coverage compares.

I do quite a bit of traveling for the day job so it's been a really good test:

Charlotte, NC area: It's a wash, both phones have really good reception in the city. Neither has really great coverage out in the county. AT&T might be slightly better here, but you wouldn't notice. Normally when one phone loses 3G, so does the other.

Atlanta, GA area: The edge goes to VZW but not by much. I would lose 3G for a few minutes every once in a while on my iPhone but it always came back, never lost 3G with the Storm.

Detroit, MI area: The edge here goes to AT&T especially in areas around the airport. My Storm would struggle to stay on 3G but my iPhone was rock solid, never lost 3G even once there.

St. Louis, MO area: This is AT&T country and it shows, my iPhone stayed on 3G everywhere, my Storm had several dropped calls and would not hold a 3G signal inside any of the buildings I visited.

Chicago, IL area: Excellent coverage on both phones, 3G pretty much every where BUT downloads on AT&T were blazing!!!

Princeton, NJ area: I just got here today, but right now sitting in my office my iPhone has a full 6 bars 3G and my Storm has only 2 bars 1XEV but it seems to go in and out of the 3G all the time. I honestly didn't expect this one, but the iPhone really seems to have superior coverage here. I'll be going into NYC tonight for dinner so i'm curious to see how they perform there.

After the past few weeks, I don't think coverage will be an issue on AT&T....

It all depends where you are located, if you have to sign a contract you might as well get the 3GS.

sidenote: man first time using firefox.. (different computer), chrome and S4 is much faster.

    Interesting info armedtank.

In the Phoenix metro area I've had few drops, OTOH service at my house is pretty much non-existant, but that is in rural far northeast Scottsdale. The closest 3G tower is over 10 miles away, over the crest of a hill. VzW is also spotty but better.

As others noted, get it and try it out for 30 days!

Based on what people were posting, I thought I would be dropping every other call on AT&T, but that has not been the case. When i'm outside of a city or metropolitan area, I would expect to drop calls on either network, but my Storm was the only phone to ever drop a call anywhere.

On a side note, my Curve has never dropped a call in the 5 months i've owned it, it can't do the things my iPhone and Storm can do, but it has the best radio i've ever used on any phone on any network.

I just got my iPhone in the mail today and so far this thing is amazing. It's everything I wanted the 3G to be and more. The speed is incredible. My Bold might never be used again at this point, unless I give it to my mom.
