I'm soon switching over to the iphone 3gs for working purposes, so I'm gonna be dropping my tour and verizon. I just renewed my contract in late august. Is there any way they might pay for the 175 dollar cancellation fee? Should I approach them with the question or would they look at me like a have 3 heads?

No they will not pay the ETF.

I've heard that some cell companies do prorate the ETF.
I'm not sure on the specifics but THAT is worth inquiring about.

That's what I do when I move carriers or upgrade phones early, I sell my old phone on Craigslist and lessen the hurt.

Thats what I did. I sold my Bold for the same exact price that I paid for it one year ago.
So that paid for more than half of my 3GS

if work is making you change carries, ask them to cover the ETF. when i switched from att to verizon for work, work paid for the transfer fees.

i think thats what im gonna do. Im also getting the storm2 from a friend, so i should have plenty of money to cover the expenses.

occasionally ATT will run a special where they will cover your etf but not normally.

no att will not. i went to the store and asked them to pay my alltel ETF and they said no.... so i sold my curve to pay my ETF

the only way you can get out of that is if you complain to verizon that the coverage in your area sucks. thats what i did and put in a trouble ticket. it came back that my area was a known trouble spot so i left verizon for att and verizon dropped the etf

if you are switching over for work reasons , have your job pay for it...especially if they are the reason why you are switching...

ATT nor Apple will cover your VZW ETF's.. and definately not after all the attacks both Motorola and Verizon have been doing.

Your ETF is Verizon's gift to you.. enjoy it.
