Credit Suisse analyst Jonathan Chaplin this morning cut his rating on Verizon (VZ) to Neutral from Outperform, and cut his target on the stock to $30, from $32. His primary reason: a shift in his thinking on when AT&T (T) will lose its exclusive hold on the Apple (AAPL) iPhone in the U.S.

“Our analysis suggests that Apple will eventually sell the device at all carriers; however, there is a much greater probability that AT&T keeps exclusivity for another 12-18 months than investors realize,” he writes. “We think this has profound impacts for Apple, the carriers and the other handset OEMs.”

Originally, he writes in a research note, he thought AT&T would lose iPhone exclusivity in mid-2010, resulting in a transfer of subs and value from AT&T to Verizon. But now, he adds, “we no longer think AT&T will lose iPhone exclusivity in mid-2010,” with “the value transfer and the catalyst we were counting on” pushed out to mid-2011, “at least.” He also says that his EPS expectations ahve come down due to “disappointing wireline margin results.” Ergo, he says, “VZ no longer offers superior growth.”

Based on the same theory, the firm has added Research In Motion (RIMM) to its U.S. Focus List; the idea is that a delay in iPhone’s arrival at Verizon by a year or more is bullish for BlackBerry sales. Credit Suisse has an Outperform rating and $95 target on the stock.

    In early trading:

VZ is down 28 cents, or 1%, to $28.90.
AAPL is down $2.59, or 1.3%, to $196.64.
    RIMM is unchanged at $67.86.
    T is down 8 cents, at $25.50.

It is really all easy.. Verizon will NOT see the iPhone until LTE is widespread.. ala mid 2011!

I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't an iPhone on VZW until LTE. But then again I wouldn't be surprised if one was released this summer. We just have to wait and see.
