But for VZW they want as many of the top devices as they can. An iPhone for VZW means a mass exodus of AT&T customers to VZW for the iPhone. Sure some people jumped their carrier for an incredible or Droid but the numbers would be nowhere near the numbers of people coming to VZW for an iPhone. And all those people still using "regular" phones and never wanted a blackberry nor really know what Android is would see the media circus of an iPhone on VZW. Remember, the media would sell an iPhone on VZW. VZW wouldn't have to do any marketing at all. All carriers want the iPhone and everyone knows it.
I agree; VZW could pick up LOTS of new customers if they offered the iPhone. A friend of ours paid out of his VZW contract just so he could go to AT&T to get an iPhone. Now all he does is complain about how he gets crappy service everywhere, including his house. He loves the phone, but despises the carrier/service. He never had a problem with VZW at home, or anywhere else in our area.

Sure, Apple is making tons of money already. But, they could be making MORE money if they allowed VZW to carry it. Seriously, who doesn't like more money, even if you already have lots of it? I know a lot of people on VZW who'd love to have an iPhone, but can't see sacrificing their good VZW coverage for AT&T's shady service (in our area at least), just to get that iPhone. Not much point in having it if you can't use it reliably.

I fully agree. I think the only thing that's keeping the iPhone exclusive is a contract at this point. But I also think the fact that Apple basically has free reign with AT&T and take in just about everything on iPhone sales. Once it becomes non-exclusive, Apple wouldn't have that power anymore and the margins would probably be lower because AT&T wouldn't allow it now that they aren't the only carrier. And what happens next, is the carrier now have the same stance against Apple so Apple now have no choice but to give in some of their power. So right now, having a device on one carrier may be best for Apple because there's obviously a huge advantage they have by having the 2nd largest carrier wrapped around their finger. But in the long run, they need it available everywhere.

Exactly, ATT probably pays them the sum on $$ up front and per device that they want, and let them handle all of the repairs, CS, etc.

VZW might not want to pay them the $$ they want, or let Apple do the CS/repairs, or issues with the app store control.

There are lots of reasons beyond the obvious greed factor of why they possibly wouldnt want to leave ATT. Its shortsighted to say more customers to sell too automatically means tons of more money if its not the deal Apple can live with.

Its like taking a job only because it pays 100k without liking the terms of the agreement for some reason or another.

until the first storm was released, verizon was a great carier with an awful phone selection. They were hoping to turn a few heads with the storm and finally carry a must have smart phone. After two storms that still isn't the case. The droid and eris helped but the incredible is really giving them a great smart phone. When I had verizon, before I had the storm, there were literally no good phones. They are all of the sudden hunting for good phones, now that they see they can't rely strictly on good service. They were nextel with good service because nextel had just awful phones.

    +1

I switched out of my parent's T-Mobile family plan to get a Droid on Verizon back in January. Looking past the Droid, I couldn't find a single smartphone that I liked. The Droid was the game changer for them. I just installed a new ROM on my Droid and it's sweet.

While I'm enjoying the Android experience to this day, I wouldn't mind seeing the iPhone launch on Verizon. If it does, I may consider it when my annual upgrade comes.

I'm pretty sure that the repair issue is one of the things that made VZW say no the first time around. Also I read that they wanted VZW branding on the iPhone and we all know that Apple is never going to let that happen.

Of course, what I said was just a few possible reasons. There are a ton of reasons.

Money/sales just isnt the end all be all of it as some think.
