- Had the Bold since December but really wanted an iPhone 3G since they came out.. ended up giving in and getting one off of Ebay..
Gotta say so far it has been a great decision. Not sure if the itch will come back to use the Bold.. the iPhone just seems that much better. If this does happen to be the case I'll probably unlock the Bold and sell it.. if not I'll do the swapping of the sim cards back n' forth whenever I get itch for the other.
Definitely the best of both worlds though.
any advice, tips, cool tidbits you would like to share are welcome..02-19-09 06:24 PMLike 0 - I've basically been in your situation since January. I own both phones, and love the both. I am using my Bold as my primary phone. I love the physical keyboard. Looking at hardware, I think Bold takes the cake. It's got the keyboard, better CPU and more memory. But as far as software goes, I'd take the iPhone anyday. I'm someone that doesn't mind investing time into my "toys" and tweaking them to my liking. There is so much that you can do with the iPhone after you jailbreak, that it blows the Bold out of the water as far as OS is concerned.
If I HAD to choose one, it'd be my iPhone. But since I'm in a position where I can still keep both, I'll keep both and use the Bold for now.02-19-09 06:34 PMLike 0 - Mine came unlocked and jailbroken.. and you definitely are right about jailbreaking it. Offers so much more, I received the phone around 3 and still have not had enough time to check EVERYTHING out.
Only problem is my battery seems to drain so quick...yikes.
Also having a problem finding an IM service that doesn't log out every time and gives me notifications that I have a message.
My girlfriend has the Storm on Verizon and we could use BB Messenger to text without actually using texts, and I was about to get notifications telling me I had a BB Msg from her...
---- so far I haven't been able to find a program that can do this ..02-19-09 06:42 PMLike 0 - Well one of the downfalls of the iphone is no background notification, because the CPU/memory can't really handle it. Which is why once you exit a program, it's terminated as opposed to "minimized." That's definitely a downer. But if buy or "obtain" Beejive for iPhone, there's a feature that texts or sends email to you whenever you receive a new IM. It's not exactly background notification, but it's at least a temporary solution.
As for battery, you may just have gotten unlucky, or I may be really lucky. But I've found that my iPhone's battery is just as good, if not better than my Bold. With almost the same type of usage, I need to charge my Bold everyday, but I can usually manage every other day with my iPhone. I think the Bold's battery life handles usages better than iPhone, but the iPhone retains battery life better during Standby. I'm not too positive, but I can't really complain about battery life on either device.02-19-09 06:50 PMLike 0 - Well one of the downfalls of the iphone is no background notification, because the CPU/memory can't really handle it. As far as BeeJive goes, that seems to be the solution, but if e-mail is only at fetch.. then it can't notify me the second I get an IM right?
Also do you keep 3G on all the time?Last edited by jhamilton3; 02-19-09 at 07:27 PM.
02-19-09 07:13 PMLike 0 - Well I have been messing with it since I got it and trying to charge at the same time so I still haven't used it with a full charge so I won't judge just yet.

I keep 3G and wifi on at all times, even if there is low signal or whatever. Mostly out of laziness, and I figured if I'm paying $30 a month for 3G, might as well use it.02-19-09 07:39 PMLike 0 - You can sign up for an Yahoo or Mail2Web account, both support PUSH to your iPhone. Then, you can tell BeeJive to send to either one of those accounts, and be notified immediately.

I did download Palringo when I first got the phone today and tried to get it to work but couldn't..02-19-09 07:45 PMLike 0 - Mine came unlocked and jailbroken.. and you definitely are right about jailbreaking it. - Are there any ESPN.com or SI.com apps for the iPhone?
And what is the best way to add pictures from the internet to my phone?02-20-09 12:20 PMLike 0 - go to the app store from your phone and dload "sportacular". it is a bad@ss sport app and I love it on the road. you can also make a homescreen shortcut for espn by going into safari, going to the site, and then hit the + sign on the bottom, and add to homescreen. basically a shortcut like on the BB.02-20-09 02:20 PMLike 0
