I have an iPhone 4 with the original OS v4. Does it make sense for me to allow itunes to upgrade it to the latest version, or should I leave it alone?

Yes, I plan on jailbreaking it as soon as one comes out. My old 3GS was jailbroken and it was great!

Just a thought. When a jailbreak does come out, won't it be based on whatever the current OS version is at that time? If that is the case, then shouldn't that be a reason to upgrade?

Mark, what tweaks are on the 4.1 that the 4.0 doesn't have?

4.1 deals with changes to the bars on your iPhone. It increases the reception and makes the bars more visible.

I believe he's referring to 4.0.1. In addition to the bars change, it also fixes the Exchange bug some people were experiencing. If one already downloaded the patch, then there is no difference except the bars. 4.1 I believe has more changes in store, possibly game center.

That's my point. When there's a jailbreak release, it's gonna be based on the last patch. Right?

Not necessarily. They always say not to update until they release a statement or something.

Everyone has answered the question, thanks! Just exchange bugs and signal bar fixes. They made bars 1-3 larger and changed the algorithm that figures how many bars to display. It is supposed to be more correct display of bars to what the actual reception is.

4.0.1 is the most current public iOS (iPhone 4), don't confuse it with 4.1 which is in beta 2 and it is ROCK SOLID. Safari is faster, push e-mail works great (more reliable) and so far the proximity sensor issue seems to be fixed.

Even some of my apps are smoother on 4.1 b2 , you guys will be happy when 4.1 goes live, definitely worth the update.

When I updated from 4.0 to 4.0.1 I still had all the issues, 4.0.1 didn't seem to do squat but kill the signal bars. All is better with iOS 4.1

Thanks for the replies, guys. So I guess I won't be upgrading just yet.

That's what I'm doing, staying with version 4.0. Then when a jailbreak is released, I'll follow the instructions.

When the new jailbreak comes out it'll be for both 4.0 and 4.0.1 so it doesn't matter if you upgrade it. It should be out sometime in August, hopefully.

I was concerned about 4.0.1 because of the problems I read about it. My phone (arrived Thursday) already had 4.0.1 loaded and I've had none of the issues I read about. I'm am digging this phone!
