Ok. I'm thinking about getting an iPhone. Here's some questions for you iPhone users out there.

I have a new iPod Touch (3rd generation) and I'm using it to test the email functionality. Basically, if the iPhone does push as good as Blackberry, I'll try it out. So, I'm using my iPod to test the theory.

I set up a MobileMe account so I have that email address working great for push. However, my two Gmail accounts, Road Runner, Yahoo, etc. don't push.

Do I need to forward those accounts to my MobileMe address to get this to work? Or, is there a way to set this up so those accounts will use MobileMe to push them to my iPod.

I guess I'm trying to understand the process. Blackberry really makes setting up email SOOO easy. I'm wondering if this is true with MobileMe.

Other than missing my Today theme I created for my 9700, the push stuff is the only thing holding me back from upgrading when the new iPhone comes out.

Thanks in advance for any help!

It's Apple's product for syncing mail, calendars, etc. It has a push option for email.

Yes, you can have all those emails forwarded
to your MobileMe account and in a sense, it
will give you push email. You actually can set
your Gmail up (one for now) to push to the
iPhone and if my memory serves me correctly,
with iOS4, you'll be able to set up multiple
    push Gmail accounts.

Gmail push on the iPhone is set up like an
Exchange email. So if you'll be using your
work email through exchange, as of this
moment with 3.x.x, you will only be able to
    have the work email.

I will search and see if it is true with iOS4.

Wow... what a coincidence. Lol. I click
the link and the first story I see is talking
    about push email! Ha.

So yeah, iOS4 will let you set up multiple
exchange accounts. Since Gmail is treated
that way, you'll be able to have push on all
    Gmail, MobileMe, Yahoo! and Exchange
    accounts.

Here are the instructions for Gmail:

Thanks for the info! That does help. What about replying? I hear that with OS4 you can reply from any email account (alias). This would bring me closer to what I have now with my berry.

I don't know... hit the link and then find
the part about mail. You can always put
all your emails on the device, but set the
phone not to check it. So when it comes
to your MobileMe, you can hit reply and
change the "From" section. As long as it
is one of the email addresses on your
phone, you can change it to it.

Hmm so like on my blackberry where I setup a phone email and then just forwarded my regular work email to it. I now need to setup a mobileme account and forward everything to it as well to get push email? Wonder if it's as fast as the blackberry push? We will find out Tuesday I guess.

Yeah, I'm going to test this out on my Touch once the new OS drops. Either way, I don't think it will be as efficient as my Berry. It is the one thing that I'm concerned about. I have a well-oiled system now with my 9700. I have a custom Today theme that shows the next six appointments. Also, I use Berrypopup for message notifications for new email for ALL my accounts including SMS and MMS. In my job it serves me well as I need to connected throughout the day. If an iPhone can fit that need, I'll give it a shot. Don't know if a Today theme for the iPhone is possible though (or the popup notices for messages). Again, this is where Blackberry still rules!

Looks like Apple is trying to take on that functionality though.

I won't lie, my Gmail pushes faster on my 3Gs
than on my 9700, a majority of the time for
    me.

I actually installed iOS4 last night and their
    support for ActiveSync has definitely
improved. I was actually able to add a Google
Apps account alongside my personal Gmail
which I also added through Exchange. Before
I couldn't add my Google Apps account
through Exchange, so it would act flaky and
    eventually stopped syncing my mail.

I have Gmail pushing to my iPhone 3GS now. I also have my Mo Me account pushed to my phone and both seem really fast, sometimes it hits my phone before I see it on my computer.
