We both had BBs for a year but my wife recently bailed and got the 3Gs. She loves it.

I know many folks say that after you have been with AT&T for a while, you can call and politely tell them you are travelling out of the country and they will give you a method to unlock your phone, Blackberries, anyway.

Does this apply to the iPhone as well? She is going home for a few weeks soon and I wanted to ask here to see if anyone had done it before I call customer service.

    Thanks,
    Michael

I don't believe AT&T will unlock an iPhone that is under contract, that's why the the hacks are so popular. You might want to ask in the AT&T sub forum just to make sure.

I think jailbreaking the phone is the best way to go and if anything happens to the phone later on down the road, you can alway restore the phone to the default settings.
