Well that's great! Now I would jailbreak it then back up the SHSH in Cydia so you can always downgrade it.

Already done. Installed Cydia and checking out the app store as well as the cydia store. Lookin pretty good so far.

I was just surprised when I saw it had 3.1.2. I was going to check the manufacturing date and then I saw it. Haha

Jailbreak is basically so you can d/l unofficial apps from cydia and probably the most desirable feature is being able to customize the look of your iphone, like this or changing your carrier name or even unlocking your iphone to work on another carrier. There are a ton of things you can do with a jailbroke phone. Also mitchell209 I'm pretty sure you cant back up your SHSH anymore. Would have had to of been backed up a little over a month ago. Doing so now will not let you downgrade anymore. Congrats on the new phone Entrical!

When I accessed Cydia for the first time it asked me to back my SHSH up. I did, and now at the top it's saying mine is backed up. So I'm assuming it's backed up. Also I think it helps that mine came stock with 3.1.2 for some reason, even though it was from the stock of brand new, never opened, iphones that AT&T had in the back.

Yup it ask me to back mine up as well and I am on 3.1.2 5.11.07 but when you look at it in cydia it is only backing up 3.1.3 correct?

The only way you will have a back up of 3.1.2 on Saurik's server is if you did it a little over a month ago.

No worries, I dont get off on proving people wrong or anything, I just didnt want you to fall into the group of thousands of other users who thought it was ok to upgrade because cydia said they had SHSH on file and are now stuck because it was 3.1.3 on file. Just dont let it update and dont go crazy in cydia with apps. Get what you need and let it be. Oh and stay away from bossprefs, works great when it works but has caused literary hundreds of people on another forum to have to restore their iphone and doing so right now is not an easy task with apple no longer signing 3.1.2 anymore. If you have a build week prior to week 40 (forth and fifth # of serial) and need to restore for whatever reason you can download and use a custom ipsw. Just google Custom 3.1.2 Firmware For iPhone 2G/3G/3GS. If you are after week 40 and have a (tethered jailbreak) then be very careful what you install on your new phone or you may just brick it with no way to recover but upgrading to 3.1.3. Anyway congrats on the new phone again and enjoy. Oh and no I have not seen anything on cydia that is a keyboard like swype but like I said dont go looking to much and installing a bunch of crap. If it aint broke dont fix it!

Yes sir. You are going to have a tethered jailbreak. Meaning you need to connect your device to a computer to complete the boot after a reset. Just dont turn it off or if you do make sure you are near a computer.

Hahaha yea it sucks but there is a device out that you can throw in the glove box just in case you get stuck out somewhere and you reboot and get stuck. Its called The iDongle Portable Tethered Jailbreak Solution
