I am thinking about buying a used iphone and try it out. I am currently with Verizon. Hoping Verizon get one soon but I also need a phone now. Looked at Droid X and didn't like it. Can I sign up with a used iphone on a month to month service? Thanks all

You can open an account with AT&T and have 30 days to try it out. Your situation
is unique though because you already have a phone and all you need is a line to
activate. I don't think you'd have to sign a contract. I could be wrong though.

You sign a month to month contract. My recommendation would be to buy the new 8GB 3GS and use the 30 day trial. If within the 30 days, return the phone and you can leave with no ETF.

Just spoke with ATT, if I come over to ATT with my own Iphone I need to sign up for a minimum one year. That sucks!

Should still have the 30 day back-out ability if the service isn't to your liking.

Couldnt you just buy a new iphone in store for a year or two at the upgrade price and then within 30 days if you are not happy yoiu can cancel your contract and only pay for the 30 days used?

Yes the OP can. That's what I suggested. The OP will spend less money and won't be stuck with an iPhone that they'll have to sell later if they decide on not staying with AT&T.
