So apparently, iOS 9 is getting caller ID suggestions feature that suggests who may be calling if some random number pops up:

I so think we need to follow suit in BB OS 10.3.3.

i already have caller ID on my Z30.....how is this any different? If a random number pops up, it's going to SUGGEST it MIGHT be one of my contacts? big deal. If its one of my contacts i will already see their picture and number...right? Random unknown callers i don't give a rip about....

So, if this number isn't in your contact list, it scans your emails looking for that number and will suggest the sender of the email as the caller name? Am I correct? Seems like a really rare case for me, but I guess some people would be interested in something like this. I think I remember someone asking for an app that would scan email signatures to automatically add contact infos when they're missing or incomplete.

    i would suggest:
everyone's data is leeched and uploaded to iCloud.

calling, it scans numbers, iIDs, etc.

most probably, it syncs via icloud, and during the call - it popup, that this number is known with jDoe.

    but generally - it's bollocks

I suggest Apple looks through its iCloud database to find a matching phone number and return the name + a controversial picture to continue their celebrity nude hack. Lol

Carriers in Canada already offer something like this. Tells you where they're calling from too.

pretty sure my android does a number lookup using google and tells me who is calling most of the time. Not sure how apples is better since it appears to only scan emails

Unless it's connected to an ANI backend, it'll be as (un)reliable as a Google search.

When I check an unknown number on canada411.ca, I think I've gotten one valid result out of 10+ and the odd Google search turns up free trip telemarketing scams.

Sounds exactly like the crowdsourced app True Caller that I had on my old BlackBerry.
