WOW, ONE phone on ONE network! What if this phone were on just one other U.S. network, 60-70% market share, EASY MONEY!
CUPERTINO, California—June 28, 2010—Apple® today announced that it has sold over 1.7 million of its iPhone® 4 through Saturday, June 26, just three days after its launch on June 24. The new iPhone 4 features FaceTime®, which makes video calling as easy as one tap, and Apple’s new Retina display, the highest resolution display ever built into a phone, resulting in stunning text, images and video.

“This is the most successful product launch in Apple’s history,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Even so, we apologize to those customers who were turned away because we did not have enough supply.”

iPhone 4 also features a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, HD 720p video recording, Apple’s A4 processor, a 3-axis gyro and up to 40 percent longer talk time—in a beautiful all-new design of glass and stainless steel that is the thinnest smartphone in the world.

iPhone 4 comes with iOS 4, the newest version of the world’s most advanced mobile operating system, which features Multitasking, Folders, enhanced Mail, deeper Enterprise support and Apple’s new iAd mobile advertising platform.

Numbers are impressive but I think those numbers also include international. I gotta look it up but I believe it does. Nevertheless, Apple keeps hitting them out of the park. Now wait til it finally get's on Verizon, game over.

    **UPDATE**

Does include figures from UK, Japan, Germany and France. But most were sold in US. Anyhow, this is ridiculous. Droid doesn't do that. Well, no one does that.

Yea I knew it was worldwide but still...I just can't get over that it's only one ONE U.S. network, unreal! Also note they ran out of stock, how many more could that 1.7 million be really.

I agree. They could have broken 2 million easily. And honestly they probably have because those numbers don't include the folks not getting them until mid july.

And only 1.69 million of them can be used by right handed people

(At least the 4.0.1 update has been approved for release.... So fingers crossed...)

Most of these numbers are probably from "upgrades" and a small number of new customers, or current AT&T customers who decided to get the iPhone four on a separate line.

This is great news! Do you have a link for this information or do you know the release date?

That's with any device. Most general consumers do not jump carriers for a device. But I'm pretty sure that while most purchases are from existing customers and previous iPhone users (which means brand loyalty... which by the way is keeping blackberry relevant), more people have probably jumped carriers for an iPhone than any other phone in recent years. There have been plenty of surveys done that show many people would grab an iPhone in a minute if their carrier had it.

I think Apple is playing it smart. If rumors are true and the Iphone 4 does come to Verizon, think about the poor people who bought it while on AT&T and then wants to bail and rebuy the phone again just to get on Verizon. Sure they can sell their phone, but unless they can get enough on reselling it, they still have to pay a major contract fee. While all the long, Apple will be laughing their way to the bank. I don't hate Apple but I think a lof of people will be mad on AT&T side if they do go to Verizon.

I wouldn't be upset to say the least, AT&T rocks where I'm at and I'd stay.

I'm not saying there isn't any good AT&T service at all. But just read in these forums and that is one of the major hold backs on getting a iphone. A lot of people don't have as good as 3G serivce with AT&T compared to Verizon. I am glad your works well, I am sure I can go some place where Verizon doesn't work as well (very seldom though).
