I currently have a 16G iphone 3G and I am curious if I should upgrade to the new one when it it comes out? What are some of the pros and cons? and if i were how much should I sell my current iphone for? (It's a white 16G in mint condition)
You could get at least $600... But you'll need every penny if you're not eligible for a regular upgrade. The $199 / $299 is only for new and "qualified" (ie... out of their 2 yr contract) customers.
I don't think it's worth it without the upgrade price. $299 is not a big deal, but $699 is some serious scratch for something that will most definitely be upgraded again within the next 12-18 months........
If you really want to you. I personally won't because there aren't many features that are added to the 3G(S) compared to the 3G. Now if you want better battery life, well maybe you should move up.
ALSO: My friend has the 16 gig white iPhone and he went to AT&T and they agreed to swap his iPhone for the iPhone 3G(S) when it comes out. I'm not sure what all was said, but it might be becasue he has had his iPhone for less than 30 days. Even after the iPhone 3G(S) drops it will still be less than 30 days. I'm sure that plays a BIG part in that.
EDIT: I just talked to my friend and they are doing this ONLY because it will still be less than 30 days by June 19th.
I really want a better battery life and stuff cause I'm pretty much on it 24/7 so I think that would be nice. If I posted it for sale for $700 obo on eBay it would sell? I mean I've seen some go for more but I'm just trying to get some money out of it.
If the battery life is really that important then go ahead and upgrade. Of course it's going to cost you an arm and a leg if you don't get your iPhone sold. If you can't get it sold do the 3.0 update and purchase a car chager. Maybe that will help ease the pain. Wouldn't be a harsh on your wallet either.
IMO its just a small update nothing too big. The only things that have been changed is the camera, its a bit faster, and battery life is improved by a bit.
Yeah. I hear that if you are doing the under 30 days thing you need to go to the store and go ahead and do the restocking and just use another AT&T phone until the 19th. Make sure you pre-order. I hear the stores have been pretty busy with the under 30 days deal. I would want to get as much out of the way as possible now. But that's just me....

I was wondering about this. My friend just got his today. If he wanted to upgrade to the 3Gs, would he be able to since it's still within the 30 day period?

Yes. AT&T allows anyone who purchases a phone to exchange it once in a 30 day period. There is a $20 restocking fee for all non Apple phones and a different restocking fee for the iPhone (I think it's 15% or something like that).

Why would someone pay $700 for a 3g (off contract) when they can buy a new 3GS for $699 (and I think that is the price for the 32gig)? Now that the new version is out (ok, on the 19th), seems like the 3g will be worth a lot less ~$400. Just my guess...
