grabbed iOS 5.1 the other night and I have no clue whats going on but I am literally seeing the digits from the battery meter decreasing. I have no idea why battery life has become worse. I thought it was supposed to be improved.
All the units in my household (3) improved. You sure there's no other variable? Location services, apps still running, settings that reverted to default etc .....
Yes, location services off. At most all I have running in the background is email which is set to pull new email every hour and Facebook.
But on iOS 5.0.1 I wasn't losing battery power like I am now. Something is not right with mine.
I did the OTA update, which only downloads and installs the changes from the currently iOS. Maybe I will have to try and install 5.1 as a whole using iTunes.
They do say that the OTA installs for whatever reason are buggier than an iTunes install. I remember they said the same on my Android.
I haven't upgraded as I don't want to lose untethered jailbreak but I did throw it on my iPod touch and the battery seems the same, but the iPod itself seems laggier than before. I actually had it freeze up which I've never had happen before. It's a 32 Gb current gen so it's not like it's because it's an old model...
This was my first attempt at an OTA update - it worked flawlessly, and my year-old Iphone 4 shows no change in battery usage. Everytime I've previously updated via iTunes there were always issues and glitches...
My business partner and I updated at the office at the same time. My batt is same or better (can't say 100% for sure on use but standby is for sure better). My partner was complaining about his batt stats going downhill since the update. we're both on 4s.
So-- mixed review so far here.
edit: the other two units in my household ip4 and ip4 are improved for sure.

Anyone else having the same issue? Any advice?
I would wipe it and do it again. I notice a huge difference in battery life, but it's for the better. I'm talking, usually I'll charge it before bed and it's at like 10% after a full day of use, now it's been around 30%.
A quick update after a couple of weeks with iOS 5.1 installed.
It seems that after a couple of weeks and charge cycles now battery life is performing like it should. I have seen a massive improvement in battery life. I guess the battery and device needed to calibrate itself with the new OS, who knows. But good news nonetheless.
Battery life on the ipad 2 is going from bad to horrible. After killing all apps in the task manager and turning wifi off, the ipad lost 5 percentage points overnight. From 99 to 94.
At this point in the day my battery life would normally be about 93% under the previous OS, it's now at 77%.
I have also upgrade my os last night and i have observed that battery life is increased. I am not sure but I feel that it may be sure increased. ios 5 is really good one.

Yeah I noticed that too. I'm now sitting at 15% after a day and 9 hours on standby and 8 hours of usage. Something that my old torch 9810 could never come close to. I used to think the iPhone had crappy battery life but I'm definitely impressed with these results. I'm nowhere near an Apple fanboy, all that ive said was stritctly based on experience. Very happy indeed
