Soo...they can see you've been to the coffee shop..went to the mall..seen a movie OMG! Or they can see you've been visiting the local drug dealer on the corner of Hooker and Blow..ahh ok. I can see how you wouldn't want that incriminating you..lol.
The whole "tracking" thing is ridiculous anyways imo..look at how many "social apps" post your location nowadays anyways..and people do it VOLUNTARILY. "So and So just become the mayor of 5th street".
Obviously you haven't lived under a dictator. Sure, maybe they can install a camera in your bedroom, you have nothing to hide right? And look how many people post their home made porn videos anyway, voluntarily.

The data you're referring to wasn't "location" as much as it was nearby cell towers and wi-fi hotspots. As for the "last year," the data collection was adjusted to shorten the period for which data is kept, and if you turn off "location services," no data is collected.
You're right.I haven't lived under a dictator. If I was a Navy Seal (I've heard they all use BBM to coordinate their attacks/ keep track of all party members via PING) or if I was a ninja and didn't want my opposing clan members finding my secret lair high in the mountain tops..then I would seriously consider against any of these "other" phones. But I'm only speaking for us more regular folk who live in cities and suburbs.
Yeah, now, after they've been exposed, or their "bug" was. I wouldn't be surprised if the "bug" will find its way back in a future update.

This might actually make RIM Sales dip -- people buy Blackberry's purely for BBM. So what happens when the other wannabe devices step in? People think "I don't NEED a blackberry now; I can get BBM on (insertrandomwannabedevicehere) so I'm all good!"
Pretty sad really.
Maybe you'd have to explain why your daily commute brings you beside some known terrorist's(pedofile, racist, drug dealer) location and why you stop there for 5 minutes every day and why they should take your word for it. Guilty by association. Maybe you'll lose your job over it even if you're innocent, maybe people will look at you with suspicion any way, cuz there's no smoke without fire right? It's not like this never happened before.

People that buy blackberrys for BbM are the ones buying the budget blackberrys, 8500s, 9300s, Pearl 3g on pre pay.
These people are in a completely different price range.
Iphone 4 on vodafone uk- free on contract from 40 a month
Blackberry 9780 and Torch - free from 25 a month
15 a month extra for 2 years, not to mention the higher insurance cost.

idk what so many iPhone fan boys are doing here... go to TiPb or something...
I'm sure you'll let us all know if it does. In the meantime, you really have nothing about which to complain on this particular issue.
I hate to nitpick, but it's "terrorists," not "terrorist's," "pedophile," not "pedofile," and if you live in a country where you'd lose your job *just* for making a 5-minute stop near a racist, move. Next issue.
LOL. I guess everyone living in urban areas should just never leave their homes...
Unfortunately, my circle of friends mostly uses iPhones. I can communicate with one friend over BBM to his work BB but his personal phone is an iPhone.
I can't even use BBM on my work BB, our BES admins have disabled it. Much as I love the physical form factor and UI of my Blackberries, this might be the final nail in the coffin for my personal BB (iCloud doesn't hurt either).
I did lol.

I was exaggerating of course, but where do you draw the line to invading privacy?

I love the tags... So much unnecessary hate.
Except ICould is really just ISync as not much gets stored in the cloud, photos and only for 30 days. That's not exactly cloud.

Well if the feds are following you like that, there obviously isn't privacy anymore.
As technology advances, privacy declines. It sucks. :(
Those things have kept me using a personal BB but it's really all about the keyboard for me.
Keyboard is an important factor for me as well but if I have no contacts in BBM, I don't think a keyboard is going to keep me from moving an iPhone, it's not that important.
I have to say, I think this statement is a bit trollish. Many people have stated that iphone users will talk about how awesome iMessenger is and how before iMessenger they ragged on BBM.
Let me turn the tables:
CB users have stated that iphones are just toys and not good for communications. Now that Apple is making all these changes to ios, things that have been on other platforms for years, people are saying that they are copy cats.
Apple is pulling their platform together. It is maturing and mixing in features that people also want, on top of the other services that Apple already offers.
I guess I just see iOS 5 as a move forward for the iPhone. Adding important features for everyone, kids, business users, consumers etc. They are making the iPhone and it's features universal. It is becoming a communications device, while still enjoying a nice suite of multimedia features.
I don't understand how people think that BBM is free. It uses data (though only a small amount) and if used internationally, you will pay roaming data fees.
Well said!
His reply (PlaybookPlayboy) which was directed at me was so asinine I didn't even want to address such ignorance.
As someone who travels,
I have done testing with multiple IM clients while traveling to minimize my cost and BBM consistently uses 1/2-1/4 the data of other IM applications,
so it is the cheapest option, though I agree it isn't free,
