I have a brand new VZW iPhone, 16 GB model, and when I looked in "About" in general settings I noticed that my iPhone only had 14 GB capacity and 13.6 available.

iOS take up 2 GB of space out of the box?

Oh boy you know ther is an app that can answer alot of these questions. But go to settings, general, about and it shows you usable space left. You can also get this from iTunes.

Sorry I misunderstood your question but I do know that 16gb does not mean you really get that much space!

My 32 GB came with about 29.X on it.

    Typical for any device.

Just about any hard drive on any device will have less than full available capacity due to the operatiinng system and in data drives, the format structure takes up some space. Out of the box with these iPhones, you can expect a couple gig less for usable space.

29.1 available on Att model. And remember, if you had a 16 or 32GB SD card for any other phone, you lose a GB or two on those as well. Nothing different
