- OK so for all of you who want ring tones but don't wanna have to do all that complicated stuff or have to pay $2.00 each one... here is the easiest way to do it...
First your gonna open your itunes, go to the song you wish to make as a ringtone, then your going to right click and click "Get Info", after that your gonna go to the OPTIONS tab, and then where it says Start Time, Stop Time, your gonna check those off, and in the Stop Time space your gonna put in the time you want your ring tone to be.. REMEMBER ring tones can only be 40 seconds long..so any time between 0-40 is great. After that you can save it and again right click on the song you have chosen, cliCK "create AAC version". Automatically itunes will create you your 40 second snippet of the chosen song. Then you have to copy the song/file that was created in iTunes onto your desktop or a folder on your computer/mac. Once you have copied the file/song you should delete it from iTunes. You then have to change the extension/rename the file from “.m4a” to “.m4r”. You might have to go into “folder and search options” on your explorer to, click on “view”, and then untick the “hide extension for known file types” option (example for Vista). This will allow you to change the file extension of the files to “.m4r”. For Macs, you click on the icon, click Get Info and then go to the NAME tab and thats where you can change the m4a file to a m4r file. Once you have renamed the song you can drag it into your itunes at the LIBRARY section, and it will go into your ring tone section and then sync your iphone and there you goFREE RING TONES made easy!
This process takes not even 2 minutes to do...so worth it!08-20-09 12:39 PMLike 0 - Question: when you say "creates a 40 second snippit of the song for you" - is that just the FIRST 40 seconds of any song in particular? (meaning you cannot for example grab 40 seconds from the MIDDLE of the song someplace).
Just wondering.
(I usually use a dedicated sound manipulation program on the computer to chop and blend songs/sounds to make ringtones - but whatever works for you)
