I want to keep both phones and switch my sim card between them both when I feel like it. Will this work for me even though I'm on Vodafone Australia and have an unlimited BB data plan?
Thank you

in your phone is what the phone runs off of?11-29-09 12:51 PMLike 0 -
Is that what you mean?11-29-09 09:33 PMLike 0 - I don't know if Vodafone is the official provider of the iPhone in Australia, but if they are then all you would have to do is switch your sim card and unlock the APN with the directions listed on the first page.
If Vodafone is not the official provider then your phone would require to also be unlocked as well as the APN.

Not sure what you mean by Vodafone being the 'official provider of the iphone in Australia' though. Vodafone is one of the major mobile phone carriers and offers the iphone on various different plans as well as buying it outright through them. Not sure if that makes them an official provider though.
So to be on the safe side should i just have the iphone unlocked by someone like Cellunlock and then unlock the APN via the instructions on the first side?
Thanks for your help on this11-30-09 05:27 AMLike 0 - Nope since Vodafone is the provider for iphone you don't need to unlock the phone. All you need to do is the APN thing described in this thread.

I use to use this feature on my first 3GS, but after switching to the new 32GB 3GS, I've not be able to get it to work. I'm guessing the OS on the iPhone is not allowing it to work.
Albeit, weird...
Special thanks to Duvi for this:
If you have wifi, it will be easier to to, but if you don't, you'll need to switch to the iPhone data plan until you can get the configuration.
From your iPhone, just go to "http://www.unlockit.co.nz/unlockit/" and then click Continue. At this point, choose Custom APN and scroll down to "carrier". Choose "US - AT&T" and then click create profile. You can choose to add v3 Tethering + MMS. The tethering will work, not MMS. On the next screen, click 'Install" and you'll be all set after that. With wifi, you can do it with your BB data plan, without, you won't be able to until you change to iPhone data and then you can change back.
This process created adds a WebClip to your home screen in which you can delete.
The reason for this is because the iPhone 3GS + 3.0 doesn't have the APN filled in. This is to stop users from using the wrong data plan.

The benefit is for people such as myself who like to use a Blackberry one day
and an iPhone another day. If we had an iPhone plan then we wouldn't be
able to take advantage of the Blackberry features if we decided to put our
sim card in it.
However using a sim card with a Blackberry plan in an iPhone has its benefits
because the iPhone works the way it was intended. The only thing that is
lost is PUSH email and in some cases, visual voicemail.12-07-09 03:47 PMLike 0
