I would say yes. the 3gs is faster and seems to have a better battery life. In addition, the camera is better.
Have you thought about buying a phone from craigslist or ebay? It might be cheaper than paying full price.
yes, i am shopping on there regularly. i just have to make sure i can jailbreak it WITHOUT the tether.
The better battery Life make me want it...
The battery life of the 3G[S] is better but imho is not significantly better.. maybe an hour better.
the 3GS has a better GPU, faster CPU, 2x the ram, up to 2x the storage(if you get the 32GB), oleophobic screen(wipe grease away easily), and longer battery life.
It's a winner over the 3G for sure.
many newer apps will run much better on the 3GS. Multitasking is much better on the 3GS also.
Yeah if you're going to jailbreak the 3GS is the much better choice due to its power.
Yes, the 3GS is worth the extra 100 bucks (if that's the difference for you). It's much faster and better battery life. If I were you, I'd go for the 32 GB because when Apple comes out with another one this summer, you'd want to have a version that gets you the best resale in just in case you want to upgrade.
What AT&T has told me that if someone is not eligible to upgrade quite yet, but you've had service for 6+ months (with no late payments) they willl meet you half way between the retail and the 2 year upgrade price. For example: iPhone 3GS 16GB is 599 at full retail, but is 199 at upgrade price. If you meet the above requirements (at least at my two local stores) they would give it to you at 399 (and it resets your upgrade dates) so essentially you're signing a new two year contract.
Yes you are correct. I had to do that on one of my lines. But I think the OP was asking about whether the 3GS is that much better than the 3G. Not sure they were asking about upgrade prices.
I used a 3g iphone for a few days and the iphone 3gs is much better. I'm glad I went ahead and paid the extra money for the 3gs.
The OP was saying he was going to have to pay full price (which I wanted to clarify that it is less than that if he's had service for 6+ months).
@dvigue, yes, the 3GS is worth the extra. It will lead to less frustration and just a more enjoyable experience with the faster processor.
The 3Gs is noticeably faster!!
To the OP, to back up what the rest have said get the 3GS, it's the best out right now.
yes this new iphone mobile is having good feature which called as 3g and its having high internet speed also in my area so thanks a lot iphone ....
Thanks for all the info guys.....
I got one last night. i bought a used one 16gig, 6 months old, for 510 overnight shipped. i think that was a good deal?
I cant wait to get it and try it out...Ill unlock and jailbreak right away (its a lower serial, so i should be fine)
Thanks all....
its funny, i get WAY more iphone responses here then on the actual iphone websites...strange:)
Hey no matter what we are using now, we all started out as crackberrys. That is what makes CB so awesome, I may have gone to the iphone but I will never leave crackberry.com
not sure the diff in the 3g phone vs. 3gs phone, but the 3g service compared to edge is unbelievable.
True.... 3g is definately nice.... One of the main differences between 3G and 3Gs is speed.... I've tested both side by side and the 3Gs is much faster.... :D
At work I sell both the 3G and 3Gs... Aside from the camera, i cant really tell the difference, and ive owned iphones since day one...
Really?? I notice a huge difference in speed side by side. Even when it comes to just opeing things like the contact list etc..... It is extra $$ tho, but imo It seems well worth it.

When I recently bought an iPhone I was trying to convince myself to get the cheaper iPhone 3G. But in the end I couldn't ignore the benefits of the iPhone 3GS.
- directional rotation in maps due to the built in compass
- potential for augmented reality apps coming in the future
- better camera and built in video recording
- better battery life
- starts up apps much quicker, accelerometer is more responsive when turning sideways in safari/messages etc.
- double the processing memory, much better for games with graphics
Its just got enough to make the iPhone an all round much better smartphone. Its how the iPhone should have been the first time around.
Have recently switched from my 8310 to the iPhone 3GS and have not regretted it all. At first thought wouldn't like the texting because of the touch keyboard. But actually like it a lot better because of the auto correct. My friend got the original 3G back in November and she wishes she had the 3 GS instead.
