    From Daring Fireball:

    Google in a Nut

Brian S. Hall, “Google Are Pussies”:

If you have a monopoly business and generate monopoly profits and take those monopoly profits to another industry and gave away what your competitors (must) charge for, which led you to quickly capture the dominant market share, would you…

…whine like a (rhymes with itch)

I thought this was an amusing perspective on current events.

Google's problem is that they don't want to play by the rules. They want to distribute their OS for free when other companies paid a lot of money in patents, licensing and R&D to enter the market and Google just wants to be able to do it all for free. Now whether the rules on patents need to change is a different conversation but right now, they have to operate under the current rules. And not to mention they have their own patents. That's cool but the mobile OS patents are silly . A bit hypocritical.

This part basically sums its up:

While Apple and Microsoft and Nokia and Nortel and Blackberry and IBM and many others were actually *innovating* in smartphones and mobile technologies for over a decade you were busy making monopoly profits in a different market. Now you want into the big global smartphone market. And essentially want *all* the intellectual property of these companies to be effectively voided.

So you can continue to use your monopoly profits in a different business to kill off all the companies -- all the innovators -- and reap monopoly profits in this new business.

And it's the truth. Those companies spent years and lots of money to get to where they are and Google just wants to be able to use what they want without having to pay for it. It just doesn't work like that. Google's problem is that they now have tech giants in Apple and Microsoft against them. Not the start up company that has a good idea and Google can quickly kill them. But 2 giants that have enough money and industry longevity to do something about Google. In my opinion they are the biggest hypocrites in this thing. They monopolize everything they do then cry foul when companies sue them for using their intellectual property.
