I'm now ready to put my 9700 as a backup and will get an iPhone 4 a few hours from now.

With the release of 4.2.1, I'm wondering if a new iPhone will come with 4.1 or older. We all know there isn't an "untethered" jailbreak for the 4.2 yet so I wonder how I'll be able to jailbreak a fresh iPhone the first time I plug it into my Mac. Appreciate the opinions and expertise.

How could google help? Tried using different search terms and the hits are all for firmware that are before 4.2.

Anyway to specify, from what I know, when you plug in a new iPhone, it asks to download the new firmware.

And if the do, it's tethered. I recommend that you stay away from that for now and wait a bit. An un-tethered JB should be released shortly.

Just opened and sync'd my new 4. I'm glad it came with 4.1 so I just chose "cancel" when iTunes asked me to update. Thanks for the replies, peeps. Greenpois0n here we go!
