    Hi Everyone

    Question : I am going on holiday shortly and will be taking my new iPhone. I have turned off data when roaming however will GPS functions be affected ? as I want to use GPS apps while away..

    Not sure on this.. On a Blackberry you can use the GPS without data, but it updates you on a blank map.

    Without data, you wont get updated map data.

    Not sure on the iPhone though.

    I would think you need sometype of data. WiFi, or connection.

    I already have an app with maps of the local area but it needs to update via GPS so it knows where the iPhone is located and to find routes / landmarks and issue directions ect..

    if you are using an app that finds routes and landmarks then you need some type of connection. iPhone will only store a limited amount of map images from the Maps app in its cache, so those will need to be updated with a connection as well.
