I changed the title to hopefully draw out the answer for you. I don't know too much about unlocking. I know a BB could be unlocked, but iphones are different. It can be jailbroken for sure, and it MAY be possible, but I will wait for other to answer for sure.
The only way to unlock it without getting your carrier involved is to jailbreak your iPhone. And it must remain jailbroken in order to keep it unlocked. Not sure if either Rogers or MTS will unlock it but it won't hurt to ask them. Hope this helps.
